Background: Global pediatric surgery has developed into a sophisticated system of teaching, training, sustaining, and serving, in order to equip low- and middle-income countries to offer the best possible care for their children.

Methods: The American Academy of Pediatrics section on surgery presented a multidisciplinary symposium highlighting and educating the members on current practice models and various opportunities for engagement, presented by experts devoted to these principles.

Results: Topics surrounding the history and development of global surgery, collaborative models for sustained service and education, faith-based surgical training opportunities, trainee engagement including barriers and challenges, and capacity building on a global scale were topic of discussion, and are highlighted in this manuscript.

Conclusion: Providing equitable pediatric surgical care worldwide remains a challenge that mandates attention and is essential to achieving health equity and improving the quality of life for children and their families worldwide.

Insect metamorphosis and chitin metabolism under miRNA regulation: a review with current advances.

Pest Manag Sci

March 2025

Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide and Agricultural Bioengineering, Ministry of Education, Guizhou University, Guiyang, China.

Insect metamorphosis is a complex developmental process regulated by microRNAs (miRNAs) and hormonal signaling pathways. Key genes driving insect ontogenic changes are precisely modulated by miRNAs, which interact with 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and juvenile hormone (JH) to coordinate developmental transitions. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in understanding miRNA biogenesis, their regulatory roles in gene expression, and their involvement in critical biological processes, including metamorphosis and chitin metabolism.

Manipulation of Single Nanowire and its Applications.

Small Methods

March 2025

Institute of Technology for Carbon Neutrality, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, CAS, Shenzhen, 518 055, China.

Micro/nano manipulation of single nanowire has emerged as a popular direction of study in the field of nanotechnology, with promising applications in cutting-edge technologies such as device manufacturing, medical treatment, and nanorobotics. The synthesis of nanowires with controllable length and diameter makes them meet various micro/nano manipulation demands. As manipulation techniques have advanced, including the use of optical tweezers, electric and magnetic fields, mechanical control, and several more control methods, they have demonstrated unique advantages in different application fields.

Prospect of extracellular vesicles in tumor immunotherapy.

Front Immunol

March 2025

Department of Reproductive Medicine, Key Laboratory of Birth Defects and Related Diseases of Women and Children of Ministry of Education, West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs), as cell-derived small vesicles, facilitate intercellular communication within the tumor microenvironment (TME) by transporting biomolecules. EVs from different sources have varied contents, demonstrating differentiated functions that can either promote or inhibit cancer progression. Thus, regulating the formation, secretion, and intake of EVs becomes a new strategy for cancer intervention.

TRP channels and breast cancer: the role of TRPs in the pathophysiological development.

Front Mol Biosci

February 2025

Key Laboratory of Vector Biology and Pathogen Control of Zhejiang Province, School of Medicine, Huzhou University, Huzhou, China.

TRP channels play important roles in regulating various physiological and pathological processes, including the progression of cancer. Several TRP channels mediate tumour development. This review focuses on the role of TRP channels in the development of breast cancer, including their involvement in proliferation, apoptosis, autophagy, metastasis, and angiogenesis.

Purpose: Following the relatively recent introduction of single-inhaler triple therapies in Japan, this study compared the effectiveness of switching from multiple-inhaler triple therapy (MITT) to once-daily fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol (FF/UMEC/VI) by investigating COPD exacerbations and adherence among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Japan.

Methods: This retrospective, pre-post cohort study using the Medical Data Vision Co. Ltd database identified patients with ≥1 inpatient diagnosis and/or ≥2 outpatient diagnoses of COPD at age ≥40 years prior to the index date (first/earliest date of single-inhaler FF/UMEC/VI initiation from May 1, 2019-February 28, 2022, following a switch from MITT).
