The consequences of under-representation are far reaching, with profound impacts on social justice efforts and public health. This article highlights the gender data gaps in clinical trial inclusion and funding, with a particular focus on gynecologic oncology. Female patients have historically been excluded from clinical trials across all medical domains. Despite recent improvements, female patients remain underrepresented in key diseases, including several cancer types, despite experiencing increased burden of disease.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is highly heritable, with men of African ancestry at greatest risk and associated lethality. Lack of representation in genomic data means germline testing guidelines exclude for Africans. Established that structural variations (SVs) are major contributors to human disease and prostate tumourigenesis, their role is under-appreciated in familial and therapeutic testing.
