Aims: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth using three different intra-orifice barriers.
Settings And Design: This study was conducted at the department of conservative dentistry and endodontics, an study.
Subjects And Methods: Forty freshly extracted single-rooted mandibular bicuspids ( = 40) were decoronated to obtain a 14-mm standard root length and all the canals were enlarged with ProTaper up to size F3 and they were obturated with gutta-percha using AH Plus sealer and randomly divided into 4 groups ( = 10). Group I: Control group obturated with gutta-percha only. Groups II, III, and IV had placement of intra-orifice barriers after the removal of 3-mm coronal gutta-percha such that Group II: Ever X posterior; Group III: Beautifil II; and Group IV: Tetric N-Ceram. Mounting of specimens was done in acrylic resin to expose coronal 3 mm and tested using the universal testing machine.
Statistical Analysis Used: Data were analyzed for significance by ANOVA and Tukey's test.
Results: Ever X posterior group showed better fracture resistance and the control group is the least among the groups.
Conclusions: Placement of intra-orifice barriers significantly improves the fracture resistance compared with the control group.

Background: Endodontic treatment is the most common method for resolving pulpal and periapical pathology. However, various studies have reported that almost 11%-13% of all teeth that undergo extraction after endodontic treatment show the presence of cracks, craze lines, and vertical root fractures. Teeth with inadequate post endodontic restoration are more prone to fracture and coronal leakage, resulting in the diffusion of oral fluids, bacteria, bacterial products, and possibly root canal treatment failure.

Objective: This study evaluated the sealing ability of different biomaterials as intra-orifice barriers in the internal bleaching of discolored teeth with the walking bleaching technique. The release of hydroxyl ions from the bleaching materials can cause cervical root resorption, making it necessary to use intra-orifice barrier materials to prevent this issue.

Successful endodontic treatments are contingent upon establishing a hermetic seal within the root canal system. This seal is pivotal in preventing/resolving apical periodontitis.
