Purpose: It is widely acknowledged that parental input plays an important role in typical language development. Less is known about the input provided to children with (suspected) developmental language disorder (DLD) or those at risk for DLD. These children may not benefit from parental input in the same way as their typically developing peers, and different aspects of parental input may be more important for them.

Detoxifying reactive oxygen species (ROS) that accumulate under saline conditions is crucial for plant salt tolerance. The Salt Overly Sensitive (SOS) pathway functions upstream, while flavonoids act downstream, in ROS scavenging under salt stress. However, the potential crosstalk between the SOS pathway and flavonoids in regulating salt stress responses and the associated mechanisms remain largely unexplored.

Females remain underrepresented in opioid use disorder (OUD) research, particularly regarding dorsal striatal neuroadaptations. Chaperonins seem to play a role in opioid-induced neural plasticity, yet their contribution to OUD-related changes in the dorsal striatum (DS) remains poorly understood. Given known sex differences in opioid sensitivity, it is important to determine how chaperonin expression contributes to OUD-related adaptations in females.

Impact of Retirement on Quality of Life: Role of Changes in Social Network Involvement.

Res Aging

March 2025

Labour Institute for Economic Research LABORE, IZA Institute of Labor Economics, University of Jyväskylä, Helsinki, Finland.

Ageing populations foreground understanding how retirement affects quality of life. The inconclusive findings on retirement's quality of life impacts encourage further analyses of this association's complexity. Using waves 4 (2011) and 6 (2015) of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe ( = 9249) and conditional change multilevel mixed-effects linear regressions, this study investigates how changes in three measures of social network involvement (size of close social network, frequency of contact with one's close social network, and emotional closeness with one's close social network) moderate how retirement is associated with quality of life.

Oxygen plays a critical role in early neural development in brains, particularly before establishment of complete vasculature; however, it has seldom been investigated due to technical limitations. This study uses an in vitro human cerebral organoid model with multiomic analysis, integrating advanced microscopies and single-cell RNA sequencing, to monitor tissue oxygen tension during neural development. Results reveal a key period between weeks 4 and 6 with elevated intra-organoid oxygen tension, altered energy homeostasis, and rapid neurogenesis within the organoids.
