The in situ combination of plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and vacuum evaporation in the same vacuum chamber allowed us to integrate germanium nanocrystals (Ge NCs) into hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide (a-SiC:H) thin films deposited from monomethyl silane diluted with hydrogen. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy were used for the microscopic characterization, while photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS) and near-infrared photoluminescence spectroscopy (NIR PL) were for optical characterization. The presence of Ge NCs embedded in the amorphous a-Si:C:H thin films was confirmed by TEM and EDX. The embedded Ge NCs increased optical absorption in the NIR spectral region. The quenching of a-SiC:H NIR PL due to the presence of Ge indicates that the diffusion length of free charge carriers in a-SiC:H is in the range of a few tens of nm, an order of magnitude less than in a-Si:H. The optical properties of a-SiC:H films were degraded after vacuum annealing at 550 °C.

The crystalline CoP@ amorphous WP core-shell nanowire arrays are oriented grown on the Ni foam (CoP@WP/NF). The amorphous WP shell provides more active sites, and the interface charge coupling accelerates the kinetic of the catalytic reaction, making the CoP@WP/NF catalysts excellent activity. In acidic, only 13 and 97 mV overpotentials are needed to reach 10 mA cm and 100 mA cm, respectively, which are the lowest overpotentials among all reported Transition metal phosphide (TMP) catalysts, of course, much lower than that of the Pt/C catalyst (31 mV at 10 mA cm, 120 mV at 100 mA cm).

The microstructures of the as-cast and annealed ZrCuNiAlNb were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), their microhardness values were tested, and their corrosion behaviours in Hank solution were studied. XRD results and SEM analysis showed that the as-cast sample was amorphous, and crystallisation occurred in the samples annealed at 923 K for 5-30 min with crystals of ZrCu and ZrNi. Microhardness gradually increased and then levelled off, due to higher crystallisation degree with longer annealing time.

Cellulose is a versatile biopolymer increasingly applied in medicine and industry due to its biodegradability and biocompatibility, along with the renewability and large availability of source materials. However, finding simple, eco-friendly, and effective methods to modify cellulose to provide it with new functionalities remains a challenge. This work presents a new, inexpensive, and eco-friendly method to chemically modify microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) by the submerged cold plasma treatment of an aqueous suspension of MCC containing different oxidizing agents, such as hydrogen peroxide (HO), sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), or sodium periodate (NaIO).

Although silicon-based anodes have been identified as a potential alternative to conventional graphite anodes, the huge volume change (approximately 300%) that occurs in silicon while cycling still impedes this system from practical applications. In the case of silicon-suboxide (SiO)-based anode materials, both LiO and LiSiO are formed during the initial lithiation processes and act as a natural volume buffer matrix to accommodate volume changes and the formation of a stable SEI layer, which improves the cyclability and capacity retention. In this study, a series of SiO/Si/C-based electrodes composed of different amorphous SiO, Si, and graphitic carbon contents were prepared.

Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis (SRM) evaluated the effect of incorporating calcium-based bioactive agents in bleaching gels on dental structure preservation and whitening efficacy.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across databases up to November 2024. Two independent reviewers screened and selected clinical trials and in vitro studies evaluating the effects of calcium-based bioactive agents in bleaching gels, following predefined PICO criteria.
