To assess the prevalence of several parasitic infections in Kiribati, dried blood spots collected during trachoma prevalence surveys in the two major population centers in 2015, 2016, and 2019 were tested using multiplex bead-based serologic assays to detect IgG antibodies against four pathogens of public health interest: Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii), Taenia solium (T. solium), Strongyloides stercoralis (S. stercoralis), and Toxocara canis (T. canis). In Kiritimati Island, the seroprevalences of T. solium recombinant antigen for detection of cysticercosis antibodies (T24H) and recombinant antigen for detection of taeniasis antibodies (ES33) were ≤4% in both surveys, whereas in Tarawa, the T24H seroprevalence was 2% (2016) and 7% (2019) and the ES33 seroprevalence was ≤3% in both surveys. At both sites, the seropositivity of S. stercoralis recombinant antigen for detection of Strongyloides was 0-4%, and for T. canis, the C-type lectin-1 antigen was 0-1% in all surveys. For T. gondii, the surface antigen glycoprotein 2A antigen seroprevalences on Kiritimati Island were 41% (2015) and 36% (2019), and in Tarawa, they were 36% (2016) and 22% (2019), suggesting that T. gondii infections are common in Kiribati, whereas the other pathogens are not.

The current study aimed to clarify the roles of apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) and milk fat globule-epidermal growth factor 8 (Mfge8) in regulating myocardial lipid deposition and the regulatory relationship between them. The serum levels of ApoA5 and Mfge8 in obese and healthy people were compared, and the obesity mouse model induced by the high-fat diet (HFD) was established. In addition, primary cardiomyocytes were purified and identified from the hearts of suckling mice.

The study aimed to investigate the effect of the CD200R1 gene deletion on microglia activation and nigrostriatal dopamine neuron loss in the Parkinson's disease (PD) process. The CRISPR-Cas9 technology was applied to construct the CD200R1 mice. The primary microglia cells of wild-type and CD200R1 mice were cultured and treated with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

The number of observed cases of occult hepatitis B virus infection (OBI) in eastern India has been increasing. Here, S gene mutations were identified in apparently healthy individuals with OBI, and the S protein variants from these patients were characterized in vitro. Plasma samples from 217 healthy blood donors were collected from three different regions in eastern India and screened for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection using a nucleic acid amplification test and immunoassays for serological markers.

Unlabelled: Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a major causative agent of self-limiting liver infections. India was highly endemic for HAV in the past; children were exposed to the virus at an early age without any disease symptoms and developed lifelong immunity. With improvements in living conditions, an epidemiological transition is occurring.

Although DNA vaccines hold significant potential, their practical application in aquaculture remains limited. In both mammals and teleost fish, B cells, which recognize antigens and produce antibodies, play an important role in immunity. In this study, B-cell epitopes capable of inducing fish immunity from IS701 family transposase (IS701) and molybdopterin-dependent oxidoreductase (Mol) proteins of Nocardia seriolae were screened.
