The Great Shearwater, Ardenna gravis, is the largest and most abundant species of procellarid seabirds in the South Atlantic. A specimen of this shearwater was found dead and parasitized by a hard tick on Cima Beach, Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil. Morphological and molecular analyses confirmed the tick's identity as Ixodes uriae. Molecular screening for Rickettsiales and Piroplasmida was conducted, and all results were negative, suggesting no immediate health threats. This study reports the first occurrence of this hard tick species parasitizing A. gravis in southern Brazil, highlighting the ecological and epidemiological implications of this finding. This record contributes to the understanding of tick-host interactions in migratory seabirds and emphasizes the need for further research on the ecological roles and health implications of ectoparasites in these avian populations.

Tools such as the Children's Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ) were designed to evaluate these patterns in children and facilitate the early identification of potential issues.
Objective: The objective of this study is to validate the CEBQ for use in Brazilian children and adolescents.

The liver serves as a major energetic reservoir for other tissues and its metabolic function is controlled by humoral and neural factors. The vagus nerve innervating the gastrointestinal tract plays an important role in regulating peripheral metabolism and energy expenditure. In this work, we report the observation of uncatalyzed ene reactions between several phenylpropanoid compounds and diethyl azodicarboxylate (DEAD). For allylbenzene, the reaction produces the ene product at molar ratios of up to 1:2 of allylbenzene to DEAD. At higher levels of DEAD, more complex reactions are observed.

This study presents an innovative approach for authenticating the geographical origin of instant coffee from Southern Bahia using vibrational spectral data coupled with Data-Driven Soft Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (DD-SIMCA). Combining data from a benchtop mid-infrared (MIR) spectrometer and a portable near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer, the methodology achieved 100 % efficiency with Multiplicative Scatter Correction (MSC) and Standard Normal Variate (SNV) pre-processing, alongside offset correction for MIR data. MIR spectroscopy enabled detailed chemical composition analysis, while the portable NIR spectrometer provided cost-effective in situ capabilities.

However, basic information on medically relevant Lepidoptera in Brazil is limited, with most studies focused on the southern region. This study presents the first comprehensive list of Lepidoptera of medical relevance for the state of Rio de Janeiro based on data from literature, iNaturalist, and the Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna.
