Background: Sarcopenia, characterized by the gradual decline of muscle mass and strength, seriously affects the health and mobility of older adults. The purpose of this study is to investigate the risk factors for sarcopenia, particularly the relationship between chronic diseases and lifestyle factors in individuals aged 60 and over.
Methods: This study used data from the Longitudinal Study on Health and Retirement in China (CHARLS) collected in 2011 and 2015.

To investigate the dynamic characteristics, energy dissipation patterns, and failure modes of granite with filled joints of varying thicknesses under impact loading, we utilized the Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) test setup for impact tests on both unfilled and filled granite samples. Additionally, a high-speed camera was used to capture the dynamic failure and crack propagation processes of the rock samples in real time. The results indicate that the thickness of the filling material significantly affects the stress-strain behavior of jointed rock masses, particularly in terms of characteristics of stress variation and post-peak morphology.

A polydimethylsilosane/multiwalled carbon nanotube (PDMS/MWCNT) nanocomposite, as a tensile-strain-sensing material, was manufactured using a simple solution casting method. The percolation threshold, the relationship between the temperature and resistance, the tensile sensitivity, and the mechanism of the tensile sensitivity of the PDMS/MWCNT nanocomposite were studied, along with its application in concrete crack monitoring. The results show that the PDMS/MWCNT nanocomposite demonstrated a significant percolation phenomenon.

Reduced bone mass and density, hallmark features of osteopenia and osteoporosis, significantly increase the risk of fractures, falls, and loss of mobility, especially in post-menopausal women and the elderly. This quantitative 7T MRI study examines the features of fibular bone thinning and bone mineral density loss (BMD) in 107 individuals (43F/64M) across various ages, body mass indices (BMIs), and ethnicities. Women had significantly lower cross-sectional bone wall thickness (BT) and bone tissue area (BA), along with greater BMD loss compared to men in those over age 50 ( = 77), but not in the younger group ( = 30).
