Exorbitant praxis of nitrogen pioneered and opened up the usage of time-specific and need-based nitrogen management. The leaf color chart (LCC), being one of the handy tool, is put to use for the estimation of the indirect leaf N, and also heightens the competence of crop N administration. Integrating leaf color chart assessments into maize cultivation practices can provide a practical and cost-effective approach for tailoring nitrogen applications, leading to improved resource-use efficiency and sustainable maize production. To perceive the specific leaf color chart (LCC) value for precision maneuvering of nitrogen in different maize hybrids, a field experiment was carried out at the research farm of Division of Agronomy, FoA, Wadura, Sopore, SKUAST-Kashmir, in the years 2019 and 2020 (Kharif seasons). Split Plot Design (SPD) employing three maize varieties (Shalimar Maize Hybrid-2 (SMH-2), Kanchan-517 and Vivek-45) in main plots and precision management of nitrogen (T: Control, T: Recommended Nitrogen (120 kg N ha), T: 25% N as basal LCC @20 (≤ 3) kg N ha, T: 25% N as basal LCC @30 (≤ 3) kg N ha, T: 25% N as basal LCC @20 (≤ 4) kg N ha, T: 25% N as basal LCC @30 (≤ 4) kg N ha, T: 25% N as basal LCC @20 (≤ 5) kg N ha and T: 25% N as basal LCC @30 (≤ 5) kg N ha) in sub-plots was systemized. The pooled means indicated that SMH-2 chalked up utmost values in growth (plant height 189.4 cm) and periodic leaf area index and yield parameters with a grain yield of 6.1 t ha, straw yield of 10.6 t ha, respectively. The LCC value of @ 30 (≤ 5) kg N ha set down statistically highest and significant grain (6.0 t ha) and straw yield (10.8 t ha) pooled over the years amidst other nitrogen management treatments, respectively. LCC @ 20 (≤ 5) kg N ha turned up to have highest apparent N recovery (REN) followed by LCC @ 30 (≤ 5) kg N ha whereas LCC @ 20 (≤ 4) kg N ha which was at par with LCC @ 20 (≤ 5) kg N ha recorded maximum agronomic efficiency (AE). LCC @ 20 (≤ 3) kg N ha showed the highest physiological efficiency (PE) and partial factor productivity (Pfp). Furthermore, different rice genotypes manifested significant effects vis-à-vis Pfp and REN, which were maximum in SMH-2 contrasted with Kanchan-517 and Vivek-45. In the interim, the economics of pooled data divulged that the maximum B: C ratio was observed in SMH-2 and LCC @ 30 (≤ 5) kg N ha. Therefore, site-specific nutrient management through LCC proved to be an effective strategy to maximize yield and nitrogen use efficiency in hybrid maize.

Synergistic effects of multi-enzyme supplementation on nutrient digestion and absorption in the foregut and hindgut.

Front Vet Sci

Key Laboratory for Animal Disease Resistance Nutrition of the Ministry of Education, Animal Nutrition Institute, Sichuan Agricultural University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary multi-enzyme (MCPC) supplementation on synergistically enhancing the functions of both the foregut and hindgut, ultimately improving the nutrient digestion and utilization throughout the gastrointestinal tract. results demonstrated that MCPC increased the phosphorus and reducing sugar levels in the supernatant during enzymatic hydrolysis. Furthermore, during the fermentation of the enzymatic hydrolysis products, MCPC significantly increased the FRD value of the enzymatic hydrolysis products from both the positive control (PC) and negative control 1 (NC1) diets ( < 0.

Utility of UAS-LIDAR for estimating forest structural attributes of the Miombo woodlands in Zambia.

PLoS One

March 2025

Forest Science Postgraduate Programme, Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Pretoria, Pretoria, South Africa.

The ability to collect precise three-dimensional (3D) forest structural information at a fraction of the cost of airborne light detection and ranging (lidar) makes uncrewed aerial systems-lidar (UAS-lidar) a remote sensing tool with high potential for estimating forest structural attributes for enhanced forest management. The estimation of forest structural data in area-based forest inventories relies on the relationship between field-based estimates of forest structural attributes (FSA) and lidar-derived metrics at plot level, which can be modeled using either parametric or non-parametric regression techniques. In this study, the performance of UAS-lidar metrics was assessed and applied to estimate four FSA (above ground biomass (AGB), basal area (BA), diameter at breast height (DBH), and volume (Vol)) using multiple linear regression (MLR), a parametric technique, at two wet Miombo woodland sites in the Copperbelt province of Zambia.

Booster effect of the fourth dose of the SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine in kidney transplant recipients.

Clin Exp Nephrol

March 2025

Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Internal Medicine, The Jikei University School of Medicine, 3-25-8, Nishi-Shimbashi, Minato-Ku, Tokyo, 105-8461, Japan.

Background: Solid organ transplant recipients taking immunosuppressive drugs are at greater risk of severe COVID-19 than the general population. In particular, kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are known to have lower seropositivity after basal doses of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, and the strategy of administering booster doses in these immunocompromised individuals has been promoted worldwide.

Methods: This study evaluated the effect of a fourth dose (D4) of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in Japanese KTRs.
