This study identifies a critical knowledge gap, revealing how the deterioration of roads, compounded by extensive usage and additional factors, poses significant risks to the road networks' functionality. Without a robust fund allocation and prioritization strategy, the extent of this risk may be overlooked, adversely affecting the performance of essential infrastructure elements. Our research introduces an integrated decision-making model for existing road infrastructures to address this gap. This innovative approach combines a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based road management model with a fund allocation prioritization strategy, enhanced by an optimization engine via a genetic algorithm. The primary aim is to precisely determine Maintenance and Repair (M&R) interventions tailored to the condition states, thereby improving the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) of the road segments. The research is structured around three key objectives: (1) develop a detailed GIS-based road management database incorporating inspection data and attributes of road infrastructure for proactive M&R decision-making; (2) efficiently allocate funds to maintain service delivery on deteriorated roads; and (3) pinpoint the optimal type and timing of M&R interventions to boost the condition and performance of the road segments. Anticipated results will provide asset managers with a comprehensive decision support system for executing effective M&R practices.

Despite decades of emission control measures aimed at improving air quality, Los Angeles (LA) continues to experience severe ozone pollution during the summertime. We incorporate cooking volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions in a chemical transport model and evaluate it against observations in order to improve the model representation of the present-day ozone chemical regime in LA. Using this updated model, we investigate the impact of adopting zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) on ozone pollution with increased confidence.

Small interfering RNA (siRNA) has garnered tremendous interest as a potential therapeutic tool because of its intriguing gene-silencing ability. Toward the success in the manufacture of siRNA therapeutics for the potential treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV), siRNA conjugated with dual functional units of membrane-penetrating heptafluoropropyl and age-related macular degeneration-targeting cyclic Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptide was attempted for transcellular transportation into the cell interiors. Of note, cyclic RGD allowed selective affinities toward the angiogenic endothelial cells in the pathological CNV.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by complex immune interactions. Elucidating the causal relationships between blood cell perturbations, immune cell subsets, and RA can provide valuable insights into its pathogenesis.
Methods: This study employed bidirectional two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) to explore the causal effects of blood cell perturbations on RA risk, with a focus on immune cell mediation.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and side-effect profile of interferon alpha-2b (IFNα2B) and topical 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) as primary treatment modalities for ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN).
Methods: Retrospective comparative study of 116 OSSN eyes treated with topical 1 MIU IFNα2B with/without 5 MIU/cc subconjunctival injection (group 1) or topical 1% 5-FU (group 2) in mutually exclusive time periods of treatment.
Results: Of the 116 eyes with OSSN, 64 eyes belonged to group 1 and 52 eyes to group 2.

Recent research highlights TXA's potential in managing postoperative bleeding in bariatric surgery, prompting us to evaluate its effectiveness for treatment and prophylaxis. PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Central, SciElo, and LILACS were searched for TXA studies in bariatric surgery, excluding those without control groups or with overlapping populations. Outcome analysis focused on postoperative bleeding, length of hospital stay (LOS), TXA side effects, mortality, transfusion needs, and thromboembolic complications.
