Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is a chemiluminescence phenomenon triggered by electrochemical reactions and is widely used for (bio)chemical analyses and electrochemical bioimaging. Compared to fluorescence sensing, ECL sensing reduces background noise by eliminating autofluorescence associated with excitation light. In addition, compared with conventional electrochemical imaging with scanning electrochemical microscopes, ECL imaging is faster as it requires no scanning. Furthermore, unlike electrode arrays, ECL devices can function without complex wiring, simplifying their construction. These characteristics render ECL sensing a useful analytical tool. Recently, ECL sensing has been widely used for in vitro cell analysis due to high demand for biochips in regenerative medicine, drug screening, and microphysiological systems. This review focuses on recent advancements in ECL-based cell analysis with applications for the detection of HO, respiration activity, cell adhesion, lipid membranes, and bipolar electrochemistry-based devices.

Background: Syphilis is re-emerging, with recent increases in congenital infections. While cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) evaluation can inform management, specimen collection requires technical skill and the interpretation of indices is nuanced. We sought to understand the practical value of CSF indices as an evaluation tool among neonates exposed to syphilis in utero.

Recurrent ischemic priapism is a common complication of sickle cell anemia (SCA) and is associated with devastating physical and psychosocial consequences. All previous trials for priapism prevention have failed to demonstrate clear efficacy. We conducted a randomized, controlled, double-blind phase 2 feasibility trial comparing fixed moderate-dose hydroxyurea plus placebo (usual care arm) versus fixed moderate-dose hydroxyurea plus tadalafil (experimental arm) in 64 men (18- 40 years) with at least three episodes of SCA-related priapism in the past 12 months.

Background: Congenital cytomegalovirus is the leading cause of nongenetic sensorineural hearing loss. Treatment with (val)ganciclovir improves audiologic outcomes. Neutropenia is a common adverse event, but correlates that predict who will develop neutropenia have not been identified.

Background And Aims: Portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT), an indicator of clinical metastasis, significantly shortens hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients' lifespan, and no effective treatment has been established. We aimed to illustrate mechanisms underlying PVTT formation and tumor metastasis, and identified potential targets for clinical intervention.
Approach And Results: Multi-omics data of 159 HCC patients (including 37 cases with PVTT) was analyzed to identify contributors to PVTT formation and tumor metastasis.

Motivation: Computational models are crucial for addressing critical questions about systems evolution and deciphering system connections. The pivotal feature of making this concept recognisable from the biological and clinical community is the possibility of quickly inspecting the whole system, bearing in mind the different granularity levels of its components. This holistic view of system behaviour expands the evolution study by identifying the heterogeneous behaviours applicable, for example, to the cancer evolution study.
