This systematic review evaluates the mechanical properties of yttria-stabilized zirconia (3Y-TZP) processed by microwave sintering compared to conventional sintering methods. Zirconia, known for its excellent strength and esthetics, has seen advancements in sintering techniques to enhance its properties. Conventional sintering, while effective, is time-consuming and less energy-efficient. In contrast, microwave sintering, introduced in 1999, offers rapid heating and improved control over temperature and shrinkage. This review, adhering to PRISMA guidelines, included studies from 2000 to 2023 that compared the effects of both sintering methods on relative density, flexural strength, Young's modulus and hardness of zirconia. Results indicate that microwave sintering improves hardness and reduces processing time, whereas conventional sintering provides higher relative density, flexural strength, and Young's modulus. The findings suggest that the choice of sintering technique should align with specific material property requirements, with each method offering distinct advantages for zirconia applications.

Lithium has become a critical element in the modern era due to the emergence of lithium-ion battery (LIB) technologies as a mean to lessen the environmental burden created by the energy usage from conventional sources. In this study, LiCO was obtained from spent LIBs using a hydrometallurgical method and sintered with Taylor Flow Reactor (TFR) synthesized NiMn(OH) precursor to synthesize high-voltage LiNiMnO (R-LNMO) cathode material for the first time and conducted a series of tests and inspections for structure, morphology, electrochemical lithium cycling behaviour and its controlling factors, electronic conductivity, lithium ion diffusion characteristics and self-discharge behaviour. The results are benchmarked with C-LNMO synthesized through a similar processing but using LiCO obtained from a commercial source.

Optimisation of powder metallurgy technology of 17-4 PH material.

Heliyon

February 2025

Institute of Physical Metallurgy, Metalforming and Nanotechnology, University of Miskolc, Hungary.

The density, compressive strength, and microstructure analyses of gas-atomised 17-4 PH samples produced by the press and sinter method (PSM) were investigated to evaluate the effects of various factors, including cold pressing, sintering time, and conventional sintering temperature. A challenge that arose from using 17-4 PH powder was that it produced PSM parts with significantly low density due to its extremely high hardness. The evaluation procedures included Archimedes' density method, regression analysis, microstructure observation analyses (optical, SEM, and EDS), X-ray diffraction, Vickers hardness measurements, and compression strength measurements.

This research investigates the synthesis and characterization of GdMnO/chopped strands composites using the conventional oxide mixing technique. A single-phase GdMnO compound was successfully formed through sintering at 1350 °C for 20 h. Structural analysis using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed phase purity and uniform grain morphology.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the marginal, internal, and occlusal discrepancies of three-unit posterior cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) produced using five different fabrication techniques.

Materials And Methods: Segmental maxillary models were prepared from polyamide material using a laser sintering method. The maxillary first premolar and first molar teeth were prepared to receive posterior FDPs.

Alumina is one of the most studied and used ceramic materials, but increasing its fracture toughness is still a challenge for many specific impact applications. Adding a second phase with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) to an alumina matrix can enhance the matrix's mechanical properties, reduce its sintering temperature, and increase its toughness by generating compressive stresses on the alumina particle surface. In this study, nanostructured alumina/eucryptite composites were prepared to achieve enhanced toughness.
