HS regulation of a host-microbe interaction. | LitMetric

HS regulation of a host-microbe interaction.

Trends Microbiol

Van Andel Research Institute, Department of Metabolism and Nutritional Programing, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503, USA. Electronic address:

Published: March 2025

It is often difficult to identify the molecular mechanisms that underlie interactions between species. Using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system,Patange et al. recently demonstrated that HS mediates interactions between C. elegans and Actinobacteria.

Cell Host Microbe

College of Horticulture Science and Engineering, Shandong Agricultural University, Tai-An 271018, Shandong, China. Electronic address:

The proper regulation of cell-cycle regulators is curial for both viral replication and host-plant adaptive growth during the viral pathogenesis. Mechanisms on reorchestrating RETINOBLASTOMA-RELATED 1 (RBR1), repressor of E2F transcription factor, and downstream genes in host-virus interactions are unclear. Here, we discover that anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) E3 ligase activator cell division cycle 20 (CDC20) in tomato binds RBR1 or mediates cyclin D1 depletion to preserve RBR1-E2F complexes, while geminivirus or crinivirus repurposes APC/C activities to liberate E2Fs in two ways: activating APC/C to deplete RBR1 or blocking APC/C to stimulate cyclin-D1-mediated RBR1 depletion.

Cell metabolism is an indispensable biochemical process that provides the basic energy and materials necessary for normal cell function. Accumulating evidence implicates abnormal metabolism of T cells as playing a critical role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The deacetylase SIRT3 has been shown to directly regulate energy metabolism in nonimmune cells.

Microbiome

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Animal Biotech Breeding and Frontier Science Center of Molecular Design Breeding, China Agricultural University, Beijing, 100193, China.

Background: The complex interactions between host genetics and the gut microbiome are well documented. However, the specific impacts of gene expression patterns and microbial composition on each other remain to be further explored.

Results: Here, we investigated this complex interplay in a sizable population of 705 hens, employing integrative analyses to examine the relationships among the host genome, mucosal gene expression, and gut microbiota.

Individual leaf microbiota tunes a genetic regulatory network to promote leaf growth.

Cell Host Microbe

March 2025

School of Biosciences, University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington Campus, Nr Loughborough LE12 5RD, UK. Electronic address:

In natural ecosystems, microbes have the ability to stably colonize plant leaves, overcoming the fluctuating environmental conditions that the leaves represent. How the phyllosphere microbiota influences the growth of individual leaves remains poorly understood. Here, we investigate the growth of Zea mays (maize/corn) leaves in plants grown in three soils with differing amounts of nutrients and water and identify a leaf-growth-promoting effect driven by the leaf microbiota, which we also validate in field studies.
