Using full-flow cardiopulmonary bypass, mild hypothermia and cardioplegic arrest, the aortic orifice of the aorto-left ventricular tunnel is closed with an autologous pericardial patch. After a longitudinal incision into the tunnel, a second patch of polytetrafluoroethylene is placed as far distally into the tunnel as possible to exclude most of its lumen from perfusion.

Background/aim: Subdural hematomas (SDH), often caused by head trauma, are serious with high mortality and long-term complications. Studies show that molecular hydrogen has neuroprotective effects, such as reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell death. It may also protect mitochondria, support cell function, and regulate immune responses, making it a promising new treatment option for SDH.

Aims: To investigate whether out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors had lower levels of self-reported physical activity compared to a non-cardiac arrest control group with myocardial infarction (MI), and to explore if symptoms of anxiety, depression, kinesiophobia (fear of movement) and fatigue were associated with a low level of physical activity.

Methods: Predefined case-control sub-study within the international Targeted Hypothermia versus Targeted Normothermia after Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (TTM2) trial. OHCA survivors at 8 of 61 TTM2 sites in Sweden, Denmark and the United Kingdom were invited.
