A Novel Method for Hemorrhage Control During Laparoscopic Distal Pancreatectomy with Splenic Vessel Preservation: Triple Occlusion.

Ann Surg Oncol

April 2025

Division of Pancreatic Surgery, Department of General Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Introduction: Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) has the advantages of reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and a better postoperative quality of life compared with open distal pancreatectomy (ODP). Meanwhile, spleen-preserving laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is the preferred technique for low-grade malignant and benign tumors located in pancreatic body and tail, since it preserves the immune function of the spleen. The splenic-vessel-preserving (SVP) Kimura technique and splenic vessel resection Warshaw technique are the two primary procedures.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease initially treated with mesalazine (5-ASA). However, its effectiveness is limited by rapid absorption, low colonic concentration, and exacerbation of dysbiosis. Probiotics can mitigate dysbiosis if they survive the acidic conditions of the stomach.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a need for better animal models to study meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and evaporative dry eye disease (EDED), leading researchers to evaluate Awat2 knockout (KO) mice for this purpose.
  • The study involved various tests on both wildtype and Awat2 KO mice, including ocular examinations, lipid analysis, and gene expression assessments.
  • Results showed that Awat2 KO mice exhibited characteristics similar to human MGD and EDED, such as corneal issues and impaired meibum secretion, making them suitable for testing new treatments.

Development of optimal in vitro release and permeation testing method for rectal suppositories.

Int J Pharm

June 2023

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Irma Lerma Rangel School of Pharmacy, Texas A&M University, Kingsville, TX 78363, USA. Electronic address:

Currently there are no compendial assays for testing drug release from rectal suppositories. It is therefore essential to study different in vitro release testing (IVRT) and in vitro permeation testing (IVPT) methods for identifying a suitable technique to compare in vitro drug release and to predict in vivo performance of rectal suppositories. In the present study, three different rectal suppository formulations of mesalamine (CANASA, Generic, and In-house) were studied for in vitro bioequivalence.
