Probiotics, prebiotics, and other biotic substances are not only effective ways to promote a healthy gastrointestinal tract, an effective immune system, and the overall health of humans, but also in agricultural and companion animals. Because key differences exist in regard to gastrointestinal tract anatomy and physiology, dietary management and feeding strategy, and disease susceptibility, however, biotic types and amounts often differ according to host species and life stage. Despite these differences, the literature demonstrates the value of biotics in agricultural and companion animal species.

Background: At a large quaternary health system, tissue specimens were frequently sent to the microbiology laboratory with an incorrect wound culture order meant for swab specimens due to poor electronic health record menu design. Wound cultures were also requested in chronic wound cases with a low index of suspicion for acute infection.
Objective: To present a case report on specific changes to the design of the electronic test menu that resulted in higher numbers of appropriate ordering practices.

Therapeutic targeting of the adenosine deaminase ADAR has great potential in cancer and other indications; however, it remains unclear what approach can enable effective and selective therapeutic inhibition. Herein, we conduct multi-staged guide RNA screening and identify high efficiency Cas9 guide RNAs to enable a CRISPR/Cas-based approach for ADAR knockout. Through characterization in human primary immune cell systems we observe similar activity with two-part guide RNA and single guide RNA, dose responsive activity, similar guide activity rank order across different cell types, and favorable computational off-target profiles of candidate guide RNAs.

Background: Due to the high frequency of laminitis reported for both conditions, the relationship between pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) and insulin dysregulation (ID), and the potential role of dopamine in modifying insulin secretion, requires further investigation.
Objectives: To evaluate the effect of pergolide mesylate on insulin sensitivity and postprandial insulin and glucose responses in horses and ponies with ID, both with or without concurrent PPID.
Study Design: Randomised crossover study.

Conversion of CO to high value products was considered as a focused issue towards carbon neutrality. Photocatalysis held the potential to realize the target, and graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) was a competitive candidate. The photocatalytic efficiency of g-CN limited by the weak adsorption of CO and easy recombination of charge carriers.
