Published: January 2025

The aim of this paper is to provide a new hybrid contraction that is a combination of Jaggi, Meir-Keeler and Zamfirescu-type contractions in the framework of a complete metric space. The existence and uniqueness conditions of a fixed point of such contractions are investigated. An example is constructed to demonstrate the validity of the obtained results. Furthermore, the presented result is utilized to formulate new criteria for solving a class of nonlinear Fredholm integral equation.

Cellulose is a versatile biopolymer increasingly applied in medicine and industry due to its biodegradability and biocompatibility, along with the renewability and large availability of source materials. However, finding simple, eco-friendly, and effective methods to modify cellulose to provide it with new functionalities remains a challenge. This work presents a new, inexpensive, and eco-friendly method to chemically modify microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) by the submerged cold plasma treatment of an aqueous suspension of MCC containing different oxidizing agents, such as hydrogen peroxide (HO), sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), or sodium periodate (NaIO).

Infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV), a DNA virus classified as , causes a highly contagious respiratory disease in chickens, leading to significant economic losses and health risks for the poultry industry. The rapid detection of ILTV is essential to control its spread and prevent outbreaks. Traditional diagnostic methods like PCR are costly, require specialized personnel, and delay response efforts.

First-Line Tislelizumab Plus Chemotherapy for Advanced Gastric Cancer with Programmed Death-Ligand 1 Expression ≥ 1%: A Retrospective Analysis of RATIONALE-305.

Department of Medical Oncology, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center of Cancer Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, 651 Dong Feng East Road, Guangzhou, 510060, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: Tislelizumab plus investigator-chosen chemotherapy (ICC) demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in overall survival (OS) versus placebo plus ICC in RATIONALE-305 in patients with locally advanced unresectable or metastatic human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (GC/GEJC) in the intent-to-treat population and in patients with programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) Tumor Area Positivity (TAP) score ≥ 5%. The United States Food and Drug Administration Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee voted (September 2024) against first-line treatment with programmed cell death protein-1 inhibitors in this setting in patients with a PD-L1 combined positive score < 1 or TAP score < 1%, due to an unfavorable benefit-risk profile. Thus, we retrospectively analyzed data from RATIONALE-305 in patients with a PD-L1 TAP score ≥ 1%.

Mechanical and Light Activation of Materials for Chemical Production.

Adv Mater

March 2025

Center for Bio-inspired Energy Science, Northwestern University, 2145 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL, 60208, USA.

Mechanical expansion and contraction of pores within photosynthetic organisms regulate a series of processes that are necessary to manage light absorption, control gas exchange, and regulate water loss. These pores, known as stoma, allow the plant to maximize photosynthetic output depending on environmental conditions such as light intensity, humidity, and temperature by actively changing the size of the stomal opening. Despite advances in artificial photosynthetic systems, little is known about the effect of such mechanical actuation in synthetic materials where chemical reactions occur.

Rationale: Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction treatment using endobronchial valves (EBV) is an effective treatment for severe COPD patients by improving lung function and quality of life. However, little is known about its effects on systemic inflammation. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate whether EBV treatment impacts the inflammatory cytokine profile.
