Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association between four insulin resistance (IR) surrogates and bone mineral density (BMD) and whether IR surrogates could be risk factors for osteoporosis (OP) in Chinese non-diabetic postmenopausal individuals.

Methods: Four non-insulin-based surrogates including triglyceride glucose (TyG), triglyceride glucose with body mass index (TyG-BMI), triglycerides (TG)/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and the metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR) index were calculated. All individuals underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry for measurement of BMD. Pearson correlation analysis was employed to evaluate the correlations between IR indices and BMD. Subsequently, logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between these indices and OP while the receiver-operating characteristic curve was used to assess the predictive values for OP.

Results: Both TyG-BMI and the METS-IR index were significantly positively associated with BMD. As TyG-BMI and the METS-IR index increased, the prevalence of OP decreased. After adjusting confounding factors, the fourth quartile of TyG-BMI and the METS-IR index showed significantly decreased odds ratio of 0.304 and 0.352, respectively, for OP with respect to its first quartile value. The area under the curve of TyG-BMI and the METS-IR index was 0.616 and 0.605, respectively.

Conclusions: IR surrogates TyG-BMI and the METS-IR index were positively associated with BMD and may be protective factors for OP in Chinese non-diabetic postmenopausal women.

Climate change and air pollution pose significant global health threats, including impacts on diabetes risk; however, their long-term effects on insulin resistance (IR), a key determinant in diabetes pathophysiology, remain unclear. This study investigated whether exposure to heatwaves, temperature fluctuations, and warm-season ozone (O) contributes to or exacerbates IR and explored the potential mediating role of biological aging. The study enrolled 6901 participants and assessed both traditional and novel IR indicators: estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR), triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c), metabolic score for IR (METS-IR), TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), TyG-WHtR, and lipid accumulation product (LAP).

Background: Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a severely progressive disease that leads to right heart failure and death. Previous studies have shown that diabetes and insulin resistance (IR) are closely related to pulmonary hypertension, but the role of IR in patients with CTEPH remains unexplored. In this study, we investigated the relationship between four insulin resistance indices and disease severity, hemodynamic parameters, and adverse outcomes in patients with CTEPH.

Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide, with liver fibrosis (LF) being a crucial pathological feature in the progression of NAFLD. Insulin resistance (IR) is believed to play an important role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD and the development of LF. This study aims to explore the relationship between various IR indicators and LF in patients with NAFLD.

Background: Estimate glucose disposal rate (eGDR), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), triglyceride-glucose (TyG), TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR), and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) are considered surrogate indexes of insulin resistance (IR). There is a lack of studies comparing the predictive values of different IR surrogate indexes for stroke risk among individuals with abnormal glucose metabolism. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between six IR surrogate indexes and stroke risk in individuals with abnormal glucose metabolism, evaluate their predictive abilities for stroke risk.
