Density-functional theory (DFT) has become an extensively and successfully used tool in the studies of molecules and materials. However, DFT remains computationally expensive, especially for exploring the conformational space of molecular systems comprising a few hundred atoms. Here, we present a Reduced Approach to Density-functional Expansion (RADE), devised to substantially reduce the computational cost of standard DFT methods. RADE can be implemented fully non-empirically as an efficient first-principles electronic structure method. Preliminary results for molecules containing elements H, C, N, and O indicate that this method can, in general, reproduce well the results from standard DFT calculations.

Objectives: This European study explored the cultural and societal aspects of chronic insomnia by means of a survey undertaken in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The primary objectives were to understand the impact of insomnia on the daily lives of patients, both personally and professionally, and to evaluate the patients' perceptions and coping strategies thus identifying cultural differences in the management of this disorder.
Methods: Based on online panels targeting insomnia sufferers, the survey included 755 patients aged 35 to 65 years with moderate to severe insomnia for at least three months, occurring at least three times per week (DSM-5 criteria for insomnia disorder, ISI score 15-28).

Obesity is a major health problem and risk factor for many chronic health conditions, including rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs). Around 7 in 10 adults with RMD live overweight or with obesity. Obesity not only increases the risk of developing RMDs.

Background: Online educational programs focused on ways to improve brain health could increase participant literacy, empowerment, and engagement in activities that support personal brain health, potentially reducing dementia risk.
Objectives: Our goal was to develop an evidence-based online educational program with a focus on risk and protective factors for dementia. Here we present the rationale and features of the program and include results from a pilot study that assessed usability and acceptability.

Reirradiation of the head and neck presents one of the most complex and challenging scenarios faced by (for) clinicians due to the narrow therapeutic window. Its use is increasing in clinical practice, often guided by empirical and pragmatic approaches due to the limited availability of high-level evidence from randomized clinical trials. Successful reirradiation requires a precise balance between tumor control probability (TCP) and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP).

Radiation resistance in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), driven by intrinsic and extrinsic factors, poses a significant challenge in radiation oncology. The key contributors are tumor hypoxia, cancer stem cells, cell cycle checkpoint activation, and DNA repair processes (homologous recombination and non-homologous end-joining). Genetic modifications such as TP53 mutations, KRAS mutations, EGFR overexpression, and abnormalities in DNA repair proteins like BRCA1/2 additionally affect radiation sensitivity.
