Aim: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a major contributor to global mortality and disability, imposing a significant health and economic burden on patients and society. Despite existing treatment options including medications and surgeries, their effectiveness remains limited, with issues such as suboptimal treatment outcomes and high recurrence rates. This study aims to investigate the relationship between low dietary intake of ω-3 fatty acids and the burden of IHD, hoping to provide new insights into the prevention and treatment of IHD.

Objectives: Revised UK guidelines for the management of contacts of invasive group A Streptococcus (iGAS) infection in community settings were published in December 2022. We present the findings of a narrative review which informed the public health recommendations around the provision of antibiotic chemoprophylaxis detailed in the updated guidelines.

Methods: We conducted a literature review of studies reporting the risk of iGAS infection associated with specific risk factors.

Regulations for dredging and sediment management often require the use of toxicity tests to support sediment classification, together with chemical characterization; among available bioassays, embryotoxicity tests (conducted on aqueous phase prepared from sediment) are commonly applied to evaluate sub-chronic toxicity, as in the case of Italian legislation. However, toxicity tests can be influenced by several confounding factors, such as ammonia that, in the context of sediment management, generally is not considered as a "traditional" contaminant of concern due to its low persistence. In order to better address and optimize sediment management, it is therefore essential to understand the influence of ammonia on the observed sediment toxicity.

Most current dietary guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) recommend the consumption of low-fat dairy in place of regular-fat dairy foods, one of the main sources of dietary saturated fatty acids (SFAs). Here, we summarise the data presented and discussions held - relating to the validity of such recommendations - between a panel of international nutrition research experts at a high-level closed workshop on 'Saturated Fat in Dairy and Cardiovascular Diseases', which took place in Amsterdam on 15-16 April 2024. The most recent evidence indicates that overall, consumption of milk, yogurt and cheese, irrespective of fat content, is neutrally associated with CVD risk.

Want to Help Your Patients with Food Allergy Anxiety? Do Proximity Challenges!

Ann Allergy Asthma Immunol

March 2025

Division of Allergy and Immunology, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Electronic address:

Excessive anxiety regarding the potential for accidental and fatal cross-contamination is very common among patients and families with food allergy and contributes significantly to burden, reduced quality of life, and poorer management. In their landmark paper published nearly a decade ago, Dinakar and colleagues recommended that food allergists incorporate proximity food challenges such as smelling or touching an allergen into regular clinical practice to improve patient knowledge regarding safety and relative risk and reduce anxiety. Such proximity challenges are akin to the exposure tasks routinely employed to treat anxiety in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), the first-line psychosocial intervention for anxiety disorders.
