We present the first Kerr-lens mode-locked solid-state laser based on ytterbium-doped monoclinic magnesium monotungstate as an active medium. The diode-pumped Yb:MgWO laser delivers soliton pulses as short as 32 fs at 1079 nm with a pulse repetition rate of ∼68 MHz via soft-aperture Kerr-lens mode-locking. To the best of our knowledge, these are the shortest pulses ever achieved from any ytterbium-doped tungstate crystals.

A 2.4 GHz Kerr-lens mode-locked laser, employing Yb:YO ceramic as the gain medium, has been fully integrated into a compact 61 mL volume. By optimizing the pump structure, all optical components of the laser are confined within a 34 × 78 mm area, enabling effective temperature control.

By using a defective mirror inscribed with a fine line, 218-fs Hermite-Gaussian (HG) pulses are delivered directly from the thin-disk oscillator with an average power of 12 W at the repetition rate of 105 MHz and subsequently converted to Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) vortices by a cylindrical-lens mode-converter. The average output power of the Hermite-Gaussian pulses is further improved to 19 W by applying a rectangular aperture.
