Wearable sensors show promising results for automated detection of certain seizures, but they have limitations such as patient tolerance, impracticality for newborns, and the need for recharging.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are particles released from cells that facilitate intercellular communication and have tremendous diagnostic and therapeutic potential. Bulk assays lack the sensitivity to detect rare EV subsets relevant to disease, and while single EV analysis techniques remedy this, they are often undermined by complicated detection schemes and prohibitive instrumentation. To address these issues, a microfluidic technique for EV characterization called "catch and display for liquid biopsy (CAD-LB)" is proposed.

Innovation in Healthcare Education: Using "Shark Tank" Approaches to Educate Teams of Interprofessional Students in Health Equity.

Inspired by the television show , we developed a summer research program that brought together students from the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Business, and Communications, to collaborate, find creative solutions, and spark innovations in population health. Under the guidance of faculty, student teams conducted literature reviews and data-thon exercises to examine trends to identify health equity gaps. Students then worked collaboratively to develop and pitch innovative solutions in front of a panel of expert "sharks" for feedback and to gain financial support to advance their ideas.
