Partial trisomy of the long arm of the chromosome 17 was found in a male infant with severe psychomotor retardation and numerous developmental anomalies. Differential staining with GTG, QFQ and CBG methods revealed an excess of genetic material on the short arm of chromosome 14, which was preliminarily identified as the distal part of chromosome 17q. Using an automatic picture analyser, chromosome break points were found in the 17q12 and 14p12 bands. The patient's karyotype was identified as 46,XY,t(14;17) (14qter----14p12:17q12----17qter).

Zebularine-treated wheat uncovered a phenotype with characteristics of an epigenetically regulated trait, but major chromosomal aberrations, not DNA methylation changes, are the cause, making zebularine unsuitable for epigenetic breeding. Breeding to identify disease-resistant and climate-tolerant high-yielding wheats has led to yield increases over many years, but new hardy, higher yielding varieties are still needed to improve food security in the face of climate change. Traditional breeding to develop new cultivars of wheat is a lengthy process taking more than seven years from the initial cross to cultivar release.

Chromosomal abnormalities of the embryo are the most common cause of first-trimester pregnancy loss. In this single-center study, we assessed the frequency and the spectrum of chromosomal abnormalities in miscarriages for each year of maternal age from 23 to 44. Cytogenetic data were obtained by conventional karyotyping of 7118 miscarriages in women with naturally conceived pregnancies.

Background: Trisomy 21 in Down syndrome (DS) is associated with an earlier accumulation of beta-amyloid (Aβ) plaques and a higher rate of Alzheimer's Disease due to the triplication of the amyloid precursor protein gene. In this study we compare accumulation rates of Aβ measured with [C-11]PiB PET between large longitudinal cohorts of DS and neurotypical (NT) participants at a single site.
Methods: Participants imaged at the University of Wisconsin with ≥2 PiB scans and ≥2 years between scans were included in this study.
