Objective: Urinary proteins are effective tumor biomarkers. Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cytokeratin-19 fragment 21-1(CYFRA 21-1), and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in serum, were proposed as tumor biomarkers of lung cancer. Our aim was to identify the urine protein biomarkers that can distinguish patients with lung cancer from healthy individuals and/or patients with benign lung disease with a high level of sensitivity and specificity.

Background: Thoracic SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumors (SMARCA4-UT) exhibit a notably aggressive phenotype, which is associated with poor patient survival outcomes. These tumors are generally resistant to conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy, thereby limiting the availability of effective treatment options.

Case Presentation: We describe a 69-year-old AIDS patient who initially presented with a fused, enlarged lymph node on the right clavicle and mild, unexplained pain under the right axilla that worsened with severe coughing episodes.

Multi-center study on the application potential of Siaα-2,6Gal in early and differential diagnosis of lung cancer.

Clin Chim Acta

January 2025

Laboratory Medicine Center, Department of Clinical Laboratory, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital), Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the potential of the abnormal glycan structure Siaα-2,6Gal for diagnosing lung cancer early and differentiating it from other conditions.
  • Clinical data and serum samples were analyzed from 730 lung cancer patients and 120 healthy individuals, measuring various serum markers including Siaα-2,6Gal and traditional tumor markers.
  • Results showed that Siaα-2,6Gal levels were significantly higher in lung cancer patients, especially in early-stage cases, indicating it may serve as a more effective biomarker than traditional tests for diagnosing lung cancer.*

The ratio of lymph node eluate/serum cytokeratin 21-1 is a potential predictor of lymph node metastasis in lung adenocarcinoma.

Department of Pathogenesis and Immunology, School of Laboratory Medicine and Life Science, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is crucial for assessing lung cancer prognosis, prompting a study on using lymph node eluate biomarkers to improve LNM diagnostics in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).
  • A study was conducted with 48 LUAD patients suspected of having LNM, analyzing specific biomarkers (CEA, CYFRA21-1, NSE, ProGRP) in both lymph node eluate and serum samples to distinguish between LNM and non-LNM cases.
  • Results showed that the ratio of CYFRA21-1 in lymph node eluate to serum was the most effective in diagnosing LNM, achieving high sensitivity (92.3%) and specificity (92.9%), suggesting it could be
