Purpose: Surgery is the definitive treatment for pterygium; therefore, reliable animal models are required for translational research. The goal of this investigation was to establish a standardized preclinical model of pterygium-like lesion.
Methods: A subconjunctival injection of fibroblasts (NIH3T3) and extracellular matrix was administered to 22 New Zealand rabbits.

Background: This study reports a case of pterygium-like proliferation containing postoperative limbal dermoid remnants and its clinicopathological features.
Case Presentation: A 79-year-old Japanese woman, with a history of congenital limbal dermoid resection at age 12, presented with a pterygium-like tissue growth in the left eye. Its temporal location and marked thickness with abundant fatty droplets were atypical of primary pterygium.

Background: Translational research to develop pharmaceutical and surgical treatments for pterygium requires a reliable and easy to produce animal model. Extracellular matrix and fibroblast are important components of pterygium.
