It has long been debated whether latent memory signals determine recognition judgments directly or through a small number of discrete states. Often, signal detection theory (SDT) models instantiate the former perspective, whereas the two-high-threshold (2HT) model instantiates the latter. Kellen and Klauer (2014) conducted a critical test using a ranking paradigm that yielded results in line with common SDT models and incompatible with the 2HT model. However, Malejka et al. (2022) recently challenged their conclusion. They argued that the 2HT model can account for the critical effect if detection probabilities were determined by a memory-signal contrast between simultaneously presented stimuli. Here, we test this contrast mechanism directly. We show that when only a single old item is presented, such a contrast mechanism entails a decrease in the probability of correctly rejecting the accompanying new items as their number increases. SDT models, on the other hand, predict the opposite pattern. Results of an empirical investigation were in agreement with SDT and inconsistent with the 2HT contrast model. Thus, our findings strengthen the conclusions of Kellen and Klauer (2014) and provide further evidence for SDT models of recognition memory. Cognitive reserve, a component of resilience, may be conceptualized as the ability to overcome accumulating neuropathology and maintain healthy aging and function. However, research measuring and evaluating it in American Indians is needed. We recruited American Indians from 3 regional centers for longitudinal examinations (2010-13, n = 818; 2017-19, n = 403) including MRI, cognitive, clinical, and questionnaire data.

Diabetic wounds present significant treatment challenges due to their complex microenvironment, marked by persistent inflammation from bacterial infections, hypoxia caused by diabetic microangiopathy, and biofilm colonization. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) offers potential for treating such wounds by targeting deep tissues with antibacterial effects, but its efficacy is limited by hypoxic conditions and biofilm barriers. To overcome these obstacles, we developed a novel approach using oxygen-carrying microbubbles loaded with Mn-doped carbon dots (MnCDs@OMBs) to enhance SDT and disrupt biofilms.

Introduction: Self-Determination Theory (SDT) examines human motivation in multiple domains; however, the only existing measure assessing SDT-informed behavioral regulations for drinking focuses on responsible drinker behaviors, rather than drinking , which is important given the alignment between SDT and harm reduction approaches to alcohol use. The aim of this study was to test the structural validity of the SDT-informed Comprehensive Relative Autonomy Index for Drinking (CRAI-Drinking) among college students.
Methods: Participants included two convenience samples with a total of 630 adult drinkers (M = 21.

Purpose: There is limited data on the use of low dose tamoxifen (LDT) for chemoprevention since its introduction in 2019. This study sought to determine the rate of LDT uptake at our institution and describe factors associated with its use.
Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of women diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), and/or atypical hyperplasia from 2019 to 2021.
