As Purkinje cells of the cerebellum have a very fast firing rate, techniques with high temporal resolution are required to capture cerebellar physiology. Here, we present a protocol to record physiological signals in humans using cerebellar electroencephalography (cEEG). We describe steps for electrode placement and recording. We then detail solutions for dealing with potential muscle, ocular, and electrical artifacts. This protocol has applications in recording patients with cerebellar disorders such as essential tremor, cerebellar ataxia, and dystonia. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Pan et al., Wong et al., and Wang et al..

Wearable microfluidic sweat sensors could play a major role in the future of monitoring health and wellbeing. Sweat contains biomarkers to monitor health and hydration status, and it can provide information on drug intake, making it an interesting non-invasive alternative to blood. However, sweat is not created in excess, and this requires smart sweat collection strategies to handle small volumes.

Mitochondrial dysfunction is involved in numerous diseases and the aging process. The integrated stress response (ISR) serves as a critical adaptation mechanism to a variety of stresses, including those originating from mitochondria. By utilizing mass spectrometry-based cellular thermal shift assay (MS-CETSA), we uncovered that phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein 1 (PEBP1), also known as Raf kinase inhibitory protein (RKIP), is thermally stabilized by stresses which induce mitochondrial ISR.

Slow eye movements (SEMs) are a reliable physiological marker of drivers' sleep onset, often accompanied by EEG alpha wave attenuation. A parallel multimodal 1D convolutional neural network (PM-1D-CNN) model is proposed to classify SEMs. The model uses two parallel 1D-CNN blocks to extract features from EOG and EEG signals, which are then fused and fed into fully connected layers for classification.

The zona glomerulosa (ZG) synthesizes the mineralocorticoid aldosterone. The primary role of aldosterone is the maintenance of volume and electrolyte homeostasis. Aldosterone synthesis is primarily regulated via tightly controlled oscillations in intracellular calcium levels in response to stimulation.

Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), consisting of Toll-like receptors, RIG-I-like receptors, cytosolic DNA sensors, and NOD-like receptors, sense exogenous pathogenic molecules and endogenous damage signals to maintain physiological homeostasis. Upon activation, PRRs stimulate the sensitization of nuclear factor κB, mitogen-activated protein kinase, TANK-binding kinase 1-interferon (IFN) regulatory factor, and inflammasome signaling pathways to produce inflammatory factors and IFNs to activate Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling pathways, resulting in anti-infection, antitumor, and other specific immune responses. Palmitoylation is a crucial type of post-translational modification that reversibly alters the localization, stability, and biological activity of target molecules.
