The biological applications of noncationic porphyrin-fullerene (P-F) dyads as anti-HIV agents have been limited despite the established use of several cationic P-F dyads as anti-cancer photodynamic therapy (PDT) agents. This article explores the potential of amphiphilic non-cationic porphyrin-fullerene dyads as HIV-1 inhibitors under both PDT (light-treated) and non-PDT (dark) conditions. The amphiphilic P-F dyads, PBC and PBC, demonstrated enhanced efficacy in inhibiting the entry and production of HIV-1 (subtypes B and C). Under light-harvested conditions, the dyads exhibited potent inhibitory effects (EC for PBC and PBC < 10 nM) and also maintained significant inhibition under non-PDT conditions (EC for PBC = 1.43 μM and PBC = 1.50 μM), while displaying notably reduced toxicity compared to their water-soluble porphyrin precursor. The P-F dyads exhibited substantial efficacy in neutralizing the T20-resistant strain 9491, both at the entry and postentry phases, thereby addressing the challenge of drug resistance.

Photoinduced intra- and interlayer electron transfer (ET) of doubly bridged donor-acceptor molecule, porphyrin-fullerene dyad (PF), was studied in single- and multi-layered Langmuir-Schäfer (LS) films and in LS films, where PF and an efficient electron donating polymer polyhexyltiophene (PHT) formed a bilayer PHT/PF and multi-layered PHT/PF structures. The ET through layers were investigated by a method, which measures the photovoltaic (PV) response proportional to the number of charge-separated (CS) states and to the CS distance between the electrons and holes formed in pulsed photo-excitation. Primary conclusions were, that ET starts as formations of CS dyads (PF) in single-layers, continues as long-range intra-layer charge migrations following interlayer CS between two adjacent monolayers.

Background: Impaired naming is a ubiquitous symptom in all types of aphasia, which often adversely impacts independence, quality of life, and recovery of affected individuals. Previous research has demonstrated that naming can be facilitated by phonological and semantic cueing strategies that are largely incorporated into the treatment of anomic disturbances. Beneficial effects of cueing, whereby naming becomes faster and more accurate, are often attributed to the priming mechanisms occurring within the distributed language network.

Despite the theoretical and empirical significance of positive aspects of caregiving in caregiver well-being, relatively little is known regarding family-related predictors of caregiver positivity. This study examines whether patient-family communication (p-f communication) mediates the relation between family hardiness and caregiver positivity and whether the mediating effects of p-f communication are moderated by the levels of caregiver depression and anxiety. This study used secondary data obtained from a large-scale cross-sectional national survey conducted in South Korea.
