The development of a single and multiplex gene editing system is highly desirable for either functional genomics or pyramiding beneficial alleles in crop improvement. CRISPR/Cas12i3, which belongs to the Class II Type V-I Cas system, has attracted extensive attention recently due to its smaller protein size and less restricted canonical "TTN" protospacer adjacent motif (PAM). However, due to its relatively lower editing efficiency, Cas12i3-mediated multiplex gene editing has not yet been documented in plants.

Purpose: Malaria remains a major global health challenge, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), contributing substantially to mortality and morbidity rates. In resource-limited settings, access to specialized diagnostic tests is often restricted, making basic blood analysis a valuable diagnostic tool. This study investigated the correlation between malaria infection and full blood count values in a rural region of Ghana during the 2022 rainy season, aiming to highlight diagnostic insights available from routine blood analyses.

Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) have been widely used in the field of wastewater treatment because of their small footprint and high treatment efficiency. In this research, 10 rural wastewater treatment sites in China that employ the MBR process were systematically studied. Specifically, treatment of actual domestic wastewater using MBRs was examined by high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing to explore the microbial community composition and perform function prediction.

Unlabelled: Although metagenomic investigations into microbial fiber-degrading capabilities are currently prevalent, there is a notable gap in research concerning the regulatory mechanisms underpinning host-microbiota interactions that confer tolerance to high-fiber diets in pigs. In this study, 28 Meishan (MS) and 28 Large White (LW) pigs were subjected to feeding experiments involving various fiber levels. Subsequently, multi-omics was employed to investigate the influence of host-microbiota interactions on the fiber degradation of pigs.

Background: The BCG vaccine induces trained immunity, an epigenetic-mediated increase in innate immune responsiveness. Therefore, this clinical trial evaluated if BCG-induced trained immunity could decrease coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related frequency or severity.
Methods: A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of healthcare workers randomized participants to vaccination with BCG TICE or placebo (saline).
