Epigenetic alteration in cervical cancer induced by human papillomavirus.

Int Rev Cell Mol Biol

January 2025

Posgrado en Ciencias Genómicas, Laboratorio de Patogenesis Celular y Molecular Humana y Veterinaria, Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México, Ciudad de México, México. Electronic address:

The critical role of a subset of Human Papillomavirus in cervical cancer has been widely acknowledged and studied. Despite progress in our understanding of the viral molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, knowledge of how infection with HPV oncogenic variants progresses from latent infection to incurable cancer has not been completely elucidated. In this paper we reviewed the relationship between HPV infection and epigenetic mechanisms such as histone acetylation and deacetylation, DNA methylation and non-coding RNAs associated with this infection and the carcinogenic process.

Design, Current States, and Challenges of Nanomaterials in Anti-Neuroinflammation: A Perspective on Alzheimer's Disease.

Ageing Res Rev

January 2025

Department of Alzheimer's Disease Clinical Research Center, Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital, Guangzhou, 510317, China; Jinan University, Guangzhou,510000, China; School of Basic Medical Sciences, Shenzhen University, Shenzhen,518060, China. Electronic address:

Alzheimer's disease (AD), an age-related neurodegenerative disease, brings huge damage to the society, to the whole family and even to the patient himself. However, until now, the etiological factor of AD is still unknown and there is no effective treatment for it. Massive deposition of amyloid-beta peptide(Aβ) and hyperphosphorylation of Tau proteins are acknowledged pathological features of AD.

CRC (Colorectal cancer) ranks among the most prevalent tumors in humans and remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Numerous studies have highlighted the connection between inflammasome over-activation and the initiation and progression of CRC. The activation of the NLRP3 (NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3) inflammasome is dependent on the nuclear NF-kβ (Nuclear Factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells) pathway, leading to the maturation and release of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1ß (Interleukin 1 beta) and IL-18 (Interleukin 18).

Small molecules are emerging as potential candidates for treating osteoporosis by activating canonical Wnt signaling. These candidates work either by inhibiting DKK-1, sclerostin, SFRP-1, NOTUM, and S1P lyase or by preventing β-catenin degradation through inhibition of GSK-3β, or by targeting Dvl-CXXC5 and axin/β-catenin interactions. While many of these anti-osteoporotic small molecules are in preclinical development, the paucity of FDA-approved small molecules, or promising candidates, that have progressed to clinical trials for treating bone disorders through this mechanism poses a challenge.
