Article Synopsis
  • Mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis (MMTVT) is a rare type of malignant mesothelioma, making up less than 3% of cases, and is linked to asbestos exposure, similar to pleural mesothelioma, but tends to have a better prognosis.
  • The case presented involves a 67-year-old man with a history of asbestos exposure, who exhibited scrotal pain and unusual skin growths; diagnostic methods confirmed the presence of mesothelioma through specific immunohistochemical markers.
  • Genetic testing revealed common alterations associated with malignant mesothelioma, and imaging suggested primary MMTVT, indicating this case involved cutaneous metastases to

Article Synopsis
  • Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most prevalent malignant tumor of the salivary glands, primarily affecting females in their 40s and 50s, with the parotid gland being the most common site.
  • The study examined 454 cases, highlighting that 414 patients were alive without relapse after an average of 62 months, while 40 experienced disease progression, often with the lungs as the main site of metastasis.
  • Key findings indicate that specific histological gradings are linked to cancer recurrence and spread, with mutations in BAP1 and other genes correlating to aggressive forms of the disease, providing insights for targeted therapies.

Aims: BRCA1-associaed protein-1 (BAP1) inactivated tumours (BIMT) are rare melanocytic tumours that may be mistaken for Spitz tumours or melanoma. They occur sporadically or in association with the BAP1 tumour predisposition syndrome (BAP1-TPDS), which may be complicated by uveal or cutaneous melanoma, mesothelioma, basal cell carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma. The aim of this study was to characterise the clinicopathological features and the immunohistochemical expression pattern of preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma (PRAME) of BIMT in a large patient cohort.

Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common intraocular tumor in adults, and nearly 50% of patients develop metastatic disease with a high mortality rate. Therefore, the development of relevant preclinical in vivo models that accurately recapitulate the metastatic cascade is crucial. We exploited the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) xenograft model to quantify both experimental and spontaneous metastasis by qPCR analysis.
