A dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT+D) method has been developed. It includes a nonhybrid dispersionless generalized gradient approximation (GGA) functional paired with a literature-parametrized dispersion function. The functional's 9 adjustable parameters were optimized using a training set of 589 benchmark interaction energies.

Background: Hypoxemia occurs with relative frequency during one-lung ventilation (OLV) despite advances in airway management. Lung perfusion scans are thought to be one of the most accurate methods to predict hypoxemia during OLV, but their complexity and costs are well-known limitations. There is a lack of preoperative stratification models to estimate the risk of intraoperative hypoxemia among patients undergoing thoracic surgery.

Background: Colon diseases are major global health issues that often require early detection and correct diagnosis to be effectively treated. Deep learning approaches and recent developments in medical imaging have demonstrated promise in increasing diagnostic accuracy.
Objective: This work suggests that a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model paired with other models can detect different gastrointestinal (GI) abnormalities or diseases from endoscopic images via the fusion of residual blocks, including alpha dropouts (αDO) and auxiliary fusing layers.
