The Compendium of Materia Medica highlights the therapeutic properties of (). In this study, the species and content of volatile components, inorganic elements, and amino acids were measured, and the activity of crude extracts of ethanol and water was studied. GC-MS analysis revealed 37-53 components across different life stages, excluding excessive heavy metals and containing essential trace elements. Amino acid profiling identified 15 types, rich in seven medicinal varieties. The in vitro anti-tumor testing of ethanol extracts from adult males (TDA (M)) and adult females (TDA (F)) was also performed. The experimental results showed that TDA (M) exhibited growth inhibition rates of 86.22% ± 1.19%, 85.42% ± 0.63%, 88.15% ± 3.27%, and 97.23% ± 0.60% against MKN-45, K-562, 239T, and 5637 tumor cells, respectively, while TDA (F) showed 81.28% ± 5.06% inhibition against K-562 cells. TDA best protected cells induced by HO at the concentration of 12.5 μg/mL, achieving a cell survival rate of 81%. Overall, TDA, TDA(F), and TDA(M) have notable anti-tumor and antioxidant activity, highlighting the significance of chemical analysis for their potential bioactivity.

Tartary buckwheat is a nutrient-rich pseudo-cereal whose starch contents, including amylose and amylopectin contents, and their properties hold significant importance for enhancing yield and quality. The granule-bound starch synthase (GBSS) is a key enzyme responsible for the synthesis of amylose, directly determining the amylose content and amylose-to-amylopectin ratio in crops. Although one has already been cloned, the genes at the genome-wide level have not yet been fully assessed and thoroughly analyzed in Tartary buckwheat.

Spontaneous cleavage reactions normally occur in vivo on amino acid peptide backbones, leading to fragmentation products that can have different physiological roles and toxicity, particularly when the substrate of the hydrolytic processes are neuronal peptides and proteins highly related to neurodegeneration. We report a hydrolytic study performed with the HPLC-MS technique at different temperatures (4 °C and 37 °C) on peptide fragments of different neuronal proteins (amyloid-β, tau, and α-synuclein) in physiological conditions in the presence of Cu and Zn ions, two metal ions found at millimolar concentrations in amyloid plaques. The coordination of these metal ions with these peptides significantly protects their backbones toward hydrolytic degradation, preserving the entire sequences over two weeks in solution, while the free peptides in the same buffer are fully fragmented after the same or even shorter incubation period.

Cadmium (Cd) is a pervasive heavy metal pollutant released into the environment through industrial activities such as mining, smelting, and agricultural runoff. This study aimed to investigate the molecular and metabolic impacts of Cd exposure on the silk glands of , a species renowned for producing silk with exceptional mechanical properties. Cd accumulation in spider bodies and silk glands was significantly higher in the low- and high-Cd groups compared to controls, with a dose- and time-dependent increase.

Phytochrome-interacting factors (PIFs) play a crucial role in regulating plant growth and development. However, studies on soybean PIFs are limited. Here, we identified 22 GmPIF genes from the soybean genome and classified the GmPIF proteins into 13 subfamilies based on amino acid sequence homology, secondary and tertiary structures, protein structure, and conserved motifs.
