Background: Accurate and timely diagnosis of mycobacterial infections, including complex (MTBC) and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), is crucial for effective disease management.

Methods: This study evaluated the performance of the NeoPlex TB/NTM-5 Detection Kit (NeoPlex assay, Seongnam, Republic of Korea), a multiplex real-time PCR assay that incorporates melting curve analysis, compared with the line-probe assay (LPA). The NeoPlex assay could simultaneously detect and differentiate MTBC from five other NTM species: , , , , and . A total of 91 acid-fast bacillus culture-positive samples, comprising 36 MTBC and 55 NTM isolates, were collected from the Korea University Anam Hospital.

Results: The NeoPlex assay successfully detected nucleic acids in 87 of the 91 isolates (95.6%). Notably, it identified additional mycobacterial nucleic acids not detected by the LPA in eight isolates. These findings were confirmed via DNA sequencing. The assay had 100% sensitivity and specificity for , , , NTM, and MTBC, whereas it had 100% specificity and sensitivity of 90.9% and 75.0% for and , respectively.

Conclusions: These results highlight the potential of the NeoPlex assay to enhance rapid and accurate diagnosis of mycobacterial infections, particularly in settings in which prompt treatment initiation is essential.

Article Synopsis
  • - The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), first detected in Wuhan, China, is a newly discovered virus linked to severe respiratory illnesses and has spread globally, causing numerous deaths.
  • - It is characterized by its positive-single stranded RNA and various proteins, and is classified as a member of the beta coronaviruses, which typically affect human respiratory health.
  • - A study at Mymensingh Medical College from April to December 2020 tested 65,000 nasopharyngeal swabs using different PCR kits, with the Sansure kit detecting the highest positivity rate (11.0%) for the N gene.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), emerged in late 2019, and its rapid spread around the globe led the World Health Organization to declare it a pandemic. Laboratory diagnostics provide important information to help control virus transmission, and molecular nucleic acid amplification tests have been recognized as the gold standard for the direct detection of viral genetic material. The main aim of this study was to independently evaluate the analytical performance of four molecular assays that were designed for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 on open testing platforms under emergency use approval, namely, the COVIWOK COVID-19 RT-PCR Meril COVID-19 One-step RT-PCR Kit, the AmoyDx Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Detection Kit, the Meril COVID-19 One-step RT-PCR Kit and the NeoPlex COVID-19 Detection Kit, as alternatives to the current standard of care (SOC) assays in-country.

There are several convenient and accurate molecular assays to detect respiratory bacterial infection. The NeoPlex RB-8 detection kit (NeoPlex RB-8) is a new multiplex real-time PCR assay that simultaneously detects , , , , , , , and in a single test. This study compared the clinical concordance of NeoPlex RB-8 with another method, Seeplex PneumoBacter ACE detection assay (Seeplex PB ACE), which simultaneously detects , , , , , and We tested 2,137 nasopharyngeal swab and sputum specimens using both assays.

Objectives: The aim of this work was to assess the relationship between a new urodynamic parameter Area Under Curve of detrusor pressure during voiding (AUCdet) and the usual pressure flow study parameters.

Material And Methods: 103 women with various urinary symptoms (incontinence, dysuria, chronic bladder pain or frequent urinary infection) had a urodynamic evaluation with pressure flow analysis. The intravesical pressure was measured through a 6CH Porges Neoplex and the intra-abdominal pressure through a 6CH rectal catheter in an empty rectum.
