Background: Solid organ transplant recipients are at risk of severe coccidioidomycosis and are given prophylaxis to mitigate the risk. Patients with seropositive testing typically receive lifelong prophylaxis; currently, this prophylaxis strategy includes patients who are positive only for IgM by enzyme immunoassay (EIA-IgM-only), although this result may be falsely positive.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective study at a large-volume transplant center in an endemic coccidioidomycosis region to compare outcomes of non-lung transplant recipients who were seropositive for Coccidioides but discontinued prophylaxis (case patients) to outcomes of patients who continued prophylaxis (controls).

Hemipteran insects transmit viruses when infesting plants, during which vectors activate salicylic acid (SA)-regulated antiviral defenses. How vector-borne plant viruses circumvent these antiviral defenses is largely unexplored. During co-infections of begomoviruses and betasatellites in plants, betasatellite-encoded βC1 proteins interfere with SA signaling and reduce the activation of antiviral resistance.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) poses significant treatment challenges due to high postoperative recurrence rates and the limited effectiveness of targeted medications. Researchers have identified the unique metabolic profiles of cancer stem cells (CSCs) as the primary drivers of cancer recurrence, metastasis, and drug resistance. Therefore, to address the therapeutic conundrum, this study focused on rewinding metabolic reprogramming of CSCs as a novel therapeutic strategy.
