Isomerization of pirazolopyrimidines to pyrazolopyridines by ring-opening/closing reaction in aqueous NaOH.

Published: January 2025

An isomerization reaction of 7-aryl-3-formylpyrazolo[1,5-]pyrimidines to 5-aroyl-NH-pyrazolo[3,4-]pyridines proceeding with high yields in aqueous NaOH under microwave conditions is reported. This unprecedented transformation occurs by adding and eliminating a water molecule an ANRORC mechanism (adding the nucleophile, ring-opening, and ring-closing) studied using DFT calculations. The product's utility was proved as they have aroyl and NH groups that simple methods and readily available reagents easily modified; likewise, their optical properties were studied, highlighting their high potential as highly emissive modular dyes ( up to 99%). NMR, HRMS, and X-ray diffraction analysis resolved the products' structures.

Cathodic corrosion is an electrochemical phenomenon that etches metals at moderately negative potentials. Although cathodic corrosion probably occurs by forming a metal-containing anion, such intermediate species have not yet been observed. Here, aiming to resolve this long-standing debate, our work provides such evidence through X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

A novel analytical method was designed and developed that exhibited ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), fluorescence (FL), and resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) signals for straightforward and comprehensive determination of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) using polyethylenimine-functionalized silver nanoparticles (PEI-Ag NPs). Through a facile one-step experiment, and NaOH assisted, in an aqueous solution of 100 ℃ for 40 min PEI reacted with AgNO to generate PEI-Ag NPs with a yellow color and weak blue fluorescence. Interestingly, phenylacetaldehyde (PAA), a specific product of MAO-B, causes significant enhancement of the three optical signals of UV-Vis, FL, and RRS.

This study focused on fabricating a cellulose aerogel for oil spill clean-up, using common reed () as the cellulose source. The process involved isolating cellulose from reed via traditional Kraft pulping, considering the effects of key factors on the isolated cellulose content. After a two-stage HP bleaching sequence, the highest cellulose content achieved was 27.

The Effects of Morphology and Hydration on Anion Transport in Self-Assembled Nanoporous Membranes.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104, United States.

Ordered nanoporous polymer membranes offer opportunities for systematically probing the mechanisms of ion transport under confinement and for realizing useful materials for electrochemical devices. Here, we examine the impact of morphology and ion hydration on the transport of hydroxide and bromide anions in nanostructured polymer membranes with 1 nm scale pores. We use aqueous lyotropic self-assembly of an amphiphilic monomer, with a polymerizable surfactant to create direct hexagonal (H) and gyroid mesophases.
