Published: January 2025

One new monomeric citrinin analog (1) and 42 known compounds (2-43) were isolated from Penicillium citrinum W22. The structure of 1 was determined by detailed analysis of the 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), HRESIMS, and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT)-based electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation. Penicitrinol A (2) and methyl 2-(2-acetyl-3,5-dihydroxy-4,6-dimethylphenyl) acetate (11) significantly inhibited renin-angiotensin system-selective lethal 3 (RSL3)-induced ferroptosis with half maximal effective concentration (EC) values of 1.6 and 34.0 µM, respectively.

Metabolic alterations are commonly associated with various cancers and are recognized as contributing factors to cancer progression, invasion, and metastasis. Drug repurposing, a strategy in drug discovery, utilizes existing knowledge to recommend established drugs for new indications based on clinical data or biological evidence. This approach is considered a less risky alternative to traditional drug development.

Microbial attack, particularly fungal degradation of cellulose, is a leading cause of paper damage. To address fungal spores and the rising concern of microbial drug resistance, a nano-Germanium dioxide (GeO)/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) complex (nano-GeO/CTAB complex) with potent antibacterial properties was synthesized. Its inhibitory effects were evaluated against bacteria, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative , as well as fungi isolated from paper ( spp.

The green shield: role in sustainable agriculture against soil-borne fungal threats.

Curr Res Microb Sci

November 2024

Section of Mycology and Plant Pathology Laboratory, Department of Botany, University of Kashmir, Srinagar 190006, India.

Article Synopsis
  • - Soil-borne pathogenic fungi significantly reduce plant yields and pose environmental risks when controlled chemically, leading to a focus on biological methods for disease management.
  • - This study isolated various species from 25 soil samples and assessed their ability to inhibit the growth of 12 different soil-borne fungal pathogens using a dual culture technique.
  • - The results showed that higher concentrations of culture filtrates from selected species effectively reduced mycelial growth, suggesting these native species could serve as sustainable biocontrol agents against fungal diseases in plants.
