Panicle elongation length (PEL), which determines panicle exsertion, is an important outcrossing-related trait. Mining genes controlling PEL in rice (Oryza sativa L.) has great practical significance in breeding cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) lines with increased PEL and simplified, high-efficiency seed production.

Enhancing healthcare cost transparency: assessing implementation challenges, criticisms, and alternative solutions.

Front Health Serv

January 2025

Department of Pulmonary/Sleep Medicine, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, United States.

The United States healthcare system grapples with a staggering estimated waste of $935 billion, with pricing failure contributing a substantial $240.5 billion. This paper explores an innovative solution to combat rapidly escalating healthcare costs by proposing measures that would complement the mandated disclosure of healthcare prices.

Glutathione reductase (GR) maintains the cellular redox state by reducing oxidized glutathione to glutathione (GSH), which regulates antioxidant defense. Additionally, GR plays an essential role in photosynthesis; however, the mechanism by which GR regulates photosystem II (PSII) is largely unknown. We identified six, three, and three GR genes in Gossypium hirsutum, Gossypium arboreum, and Gossypium raimondii, respectively.

Semaglutide administration protects cardiomyocytes in db/db mice via energetic improvement and mitochondrial quality control.

Acta Pharmacol Sin

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Medicine, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cardiovascular Disease Translational Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, 211166, China.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy causes end-stage heart failure, resulting in high morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Long-term treatment targeting metabolism is an emerging field in the treatment of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Semaglutide, an agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor, is clinically approved for the treatment of T2DM and provides cardiac benefits in patients.

The absorption refrigeration system (ARS) stands as a remarkable device that is capable of efficiently harnessing low-grade thermal energy and converting it into cooling capacity. The reverse electrodialysis (RED) system harvests the salinity gradient energy embedded in two solutions of different concentrations into electricity. An innovative RED-ARS integration system is proposed that outputs cooling capacity and electric energy, driven by waste heat.
