Appropriately designed catalysts help to minimise the energy required to convert the energy-poor feedstock HO into energy-rich molecular H. Herein, two families of pyridazine-based cryptates, mononuclear [MLi](BF) and mixed metal dinuclear [MCuLi](BF) (M = Fe, Co, Cu or Zn; Li is the Schiff base cryptand made by 2 : 3 condensation of tris(2-aminoethyl)amine and 3,6-diformylpyridazine), are investigated as potential electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in MeCN with acetic acid as the proton source. The synthesis and structures of a new mixed metal cryptate, [ZnCuLi](BF), and the tetrafluoroborate analogue of the previously reported perchlorate salt of the mono-zinc cryptate, [ZnLi](BF)·0.5HO, are reported. Electrocatalytic HER testing showed that a deposit forms on the glassy carbon working electrode during electrolysis and it is the active species responsible for the very modest activity observed. The deposits formed by the heterobinuclear cryptates had higher activities (2.0 < TON < 3.5) than the deposits formed by the mononuclear cryptates (TON < 0.75). But unfortunately the control, using Cu(MeCN)BF, had a similar TON (2.3) to those seen for the heterobinculear cryptates, which indicates that it is the deposit formed by the Cu cation present in the heterobinuclear cryptates that is likely responsible for the observed, very modest, HER activity.

Unlike homogeneous metal complexes, achieving absolute control over reaction selectivity in heterogeneous catalysts remains a formidable challenge due to the unguided molecular adsorption/desorption on metal-surface sites. Conventional organic surface modifiers or ligands and rigid inorganic and metal-organic porous shells are not fully effective. Here, we introduce the concept of "ligand-porous shell cooperativity" to desirably reaction selectivity in heterogeneous catalysis.

Mixing different metal ions at the B site of ABX perovskites offers a promising approach for addressing challenges related to toxicity, stability and performance in optoelectronic applications. One such example is CsPbSnBr which addresses the toxicity issue posed by lead while allowing us to tune optoelectronic properties such as the band gap. In this work, nearly monodisperse CsPbSnBr quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized with variable Pb/Sn compositions, CsPbBr, CsPbSnBr and CsPbSnBr.

However, the poor stability of perovskites with many defects and the long cycle time for the preparation of perovskite nanocomposites have hindered their production and application. Here, we prepared the perovskite mesostructures by embedding MAPbBr nanocrystals in the mesopores on the surface of silica nanospheres and mixing the nanospheres with silver nanowires and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and further explored their optical properties.

Biodiesel presents a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, yet traditional homogeneous catalysts like sodium and potassium hydroxide face challenges with separation and reuse. Calcium oxide (CaO) is an effective heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production, but its chemical instability under reaction conditions restricts its long-term performance. This study introduces MOF-mediated synthesis (MOFMS) of heterogeneous catalysts, specifically CaO@ZnO and ZnO@CaO nanocomposites, from inexpensive and non-toxic metal salts and linkers in water.

The ecology of watersheds plays an important role in regulating regional climate and human activities. The sediment-soil system in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin (Henan section) was explored. The spatial distribution characteristics of heavy metals (HMs) showed that tributaries, which are affected by anthropogenic activities, contain higher concentrations of HMs than the main channel.
