The gastrointestinal epithelium serves as a critical barrier separating intestinal lumen contents from the underlying tissue environment. Structure and function of the apical junctional complex (AJC), comprising tight and adherens junctions, are essential for establishing and maintaining a polarized and functional epithelial barrier. In this study, we investigated mechanisms by which an apical polarity protein Crumbs homolog 3 (CRB3) regulates AJC assembly and barrier function in primary murine intestinal epithelial cells.

Telomerase, constituted by the dynamic duo of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT), the catalytic entity, and an integral RNA component (TERC), is predominantly suppressed in differentiated human cells due to postnatal transcriptional repression of the TERT gene. Dysregulation of telomerase significantly contributes to cancer development via telomere-dependent and independent mechanisms. Telomerase activity is often elevated in advanced cancers, with TERT reactivation and upregulation of TERC observed in early tumorigenesis.

In the underwater domain, small object detection plays a crucial role in the protection, management, and monitoring of the environment and marine life. Advancements in deep learning have led to the development of many efficient detection techniques. However, the complexity of the underwater environment, limited information available from small objects, and constrained computational resources make small object detection challenging.

Patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) suffer from an autoimmune bleeding disorder with an isolated low number of platelets. Platelets and megakaryocytes are targeted by the immune system, due to a loss of immune tolerance, via the action of platelet-autoantibodies and/or cytotoxic T cells. ITP is a highly variable disorder regarding the underlying biological mechanisms, disease trajectories and treatment responses.
