The article analyses the recent amendment by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in India, capping the number of undergraduate medical seats in high-performing states, which has sparked a debate. With a healthcare system catering to the diverse needs of 1.4 billion people, regional disparities in healthcare personnel distribution have emerged, especially among doctors. The advantages of the amendment include a focused approach on lagging states and the potential distribution of doctors to improve overall health indices. However, concerns arise over infringement of the autonomy of state governments, potential hindrance to high-performing states, and the impact on doctors' postgraduate choices. This commentary explores the complex factors influencing doctor distribution, including state policies, infrastructure and migration patterns. While emphasising the need for equitable healthcare access, and it also stresses the need for a balanced approach to address the challenges in doctor distribution to ensure both state and national healthcare needs are met effectively.

Cholecystectomy is the recommended treatment for acute cholecystitis in pregnancy, leading to fewer pregnancy-related complications than non-operative management. Cognitive control deficits and increased intra-subject variability have been well established as core characteristics of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and there is a growing interest in their expression at the neural level. We aimed to study neural variability in ADHD, as reflected in theta inter-trial phase coherence (ITC) during error processing, a process that involves cognitive control. We examined both traditional event-related potential (ERP) measures of error processing (i.

Objective: Whereas a scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) is important for diagnosing epilepsy, a single routine EEG is limited in its diagnostic value. Only a small percentage of routine EEGs show interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) and overall misdiagnosis rates of epilepsy are 20% to 30%. We aim to demonstrate how network properties in EEG recordings can be used to improve the speed and accuracy differentiating epilepsy from mimics, such as functional seizures - even in the absence of IEDs.

Modulating immune function is a critical strategy in cancer and atherosclerosis treatments. For cancer, boosting or maintaining the immune system is crucial to prevent tumor growth. However, in vascular disease, mitigating immune responses can decrease inflammation and slow atherosclerosis progression.
