The eastern or Tasmanian bettong ( ) is one of four extant bettong species and is listed as 'Near Threatened' by the IUCN. We sequenced short read data on the 10x system to generate a reference genome 3.46Gb in size and contig N50 of 87.36Kb. Additionally, we used GeMoMa to provide and accompanying annotation for the reference genome. The generation of a reference genome for the eastern bettong provides a vital resource for the conservation of the species.

Background: Rare diseases (RDs) are a heterogeneous group of complex and low-prevalence conditions in which the time to establish a definitive diagnosis is often too long. In addition, for most RDs, few to no treatments are available and it is often difficult to find a specialized care team.

Objectives: The project "acERca las enfermedades raras" (in English: "bringing RDs closer") is an initiative primary designed to generate a consensus by a multidisciplinary group of experts to detect the strengths and weaknesses in the public healthcare system concerning the comprehensive care of persons living with a RD (PLWRD) in the region of Catalonia, Spain, where a Network of Clinical Expert Units (Xarxa d'Unitats de Expertesa Clínica or XUEC) was created and is being implemented since 2015.

Reference genome provide insights into sex determination of silver aworana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum).

BMC Biol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Prevention and Control for Aquatic Invasive Alien Species, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangdong Modern Recreational Fisheries Engineering Technology Center, Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Silver arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is a basal fish species with sexual monomorphism, while its sex determination mechanism has been poorly understood, posing a significant challenge to its captive breeding efforts.

Results: We constructed two high-quality chromosome-level genome assemblies for both female and male silver arowana, with scaffold N50 values over 10 Mb. Combining re-sequencing data of 109 individuals, we identified a female-specific region, which was localized in a non-coding region, i.

Background: The photothermal sensitivity of tobacco refers to how tobacco plants respond to variations in the photothermal conditions of their growth environment. The degree of this sensitivity is crucial for determining the optimal planting regions for specific varieties, as well as for improving the quality and yield of tobacco leaves. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the development of photothermal sensitivity in tobacco remain unclear.

BrCYP71 mutation resulted in stay-green in pak choi (Brassica rapa L. ssp. chinensis).

Theor Appl Genet

January 2025

College of Horticulture, Shenyang Agricultural University, Shenyang, 110866, People's Republic of China.

BrCYP71 encoding multifunctional oxidase was mapped using BSA-Seq and linkage analysis, and its function in stay-green of pak choi was verified through Arabidopsis heterologous transgenic experiment. Stay-green refers to the phenomenon that plant leaves remain green during senescence and even after death, which is of great significance for improving the commerciality of leafy vegetables during storage or transportation and extending their shelf life. In this study, we identified a stay-green mutant of pak choi and named it nye2.

Population-based, first-tier genomic newborn screening in the maternity ward.

Nat Med

January 2025

Division of Child Neurology, Reference Center for Neuromuscular Diseases, Department of Pediatrics, CHU Liege, University of Liege, Liege, Belgium.

The rapid development of therapies for severe and rare genetic conditions underlines the need to incorporate first-tier genetic testing into newborn screening (NBS) programs. A workflow was developed to screen newborns for 165 treatable pediatric disorders by deep sequencing of regions of interest in 405 genes. The prospective observational BabyDetect pilot project was launched in September 2022 in a maternity ward of a public hospital in the Liege area, Belgium.
