The establishment and characterization of the ASE-14 cell line derived from embryos of Amblyomma sculptum is described here. Primary cultures were started, and after 60 days of culturing a confluent monolayer was formed and the first subculture was then carried out. After this, new subcultures were carried out every 4 weeks.

This study compared the cytogenetic profiles of choroidal melanoma samples retrieved before and after proton beam irradiation. Twenty-four consecutive patients who underwent both fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) during tantalum clip positioning, and endoresection within three months of irradiation, were retrospectively included. Chromosome alterations were explored by array comparative genomic hybridization.

Background: Borrelia infection is known to develop as a result of the bites of the ixodid ticks while the extremely difficult working conditions and low temperatures contribute to the development of chronic gonosteoarthritis (CGA) associated with ixodid tick-borne borreliosis (ITB) in the residents of the northern part of Siberia.
Aim: The objective of the present study was to elucidate the frequency of occurrence of the synovial cells in the knee joints exhibiting the cytogenetic abnormalities with special reference to trisomy of chromosome 7 and the glutathione-S-transferase (GSTM1) gene polymorphism in the residents of the northern part of Siberia presenting with Lyme borreliosis (LB) whose genotype contains some alleles of the GSTM1 gene before and after the treatment of LB-associated CGA with the use of the radon bath therapy. The secondary objective was to compare the respective characteristics and the results of the treatment with those in the patients with post-traumatic gonosteoarthritis (PTGA) and to evaluate the influence of the above abnormalities on the severity of CGA.

As an obligate hematophagous ectoparasite, the hard tick Haemaphysalis longicornis exhibits two reproductive strategies, bisexual reproduction, and obligate parthenogenesis, which have attracted a widespread attention. However, the speciation of parthenogenetic population remained ambiguous due to its similarity in morphology but the remarkable differences in cytogenetics as compared with those of the bisexual ones. In the present study, we explored several new lines of genetic evidence to resolve this controversial issue.

In spite of the global medical and veterinary importance of Ixodid ticks, relatively little is known about their genome organization. To address this, we developed the first fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)-based chromosome markers in the Lyme disease vector, Ixodes scapularis. Shotgun genomic DNA (gDNA) sequences were used to identify three major tandem repeat families which were localized to specific heterochromatic regions of I.
