Hand(s)-tapping tasks have been extensively studied in order to characterize the features of sensorimotor synchronization (SMS). These tasks frequently require participants to synchronize their tapping pace to an external, metronome-like sound. The impact of ageing on SMS abilities remains mainly unexplored. Thus, we conducted a series of hand tapping tasks on 15 young adults (YA) and 15 older adults (OA). The tasks included tapping with the dominant hand only (D), with the non-dominant hand only (ND), with both hands simultaneously (SIM), and alternating between the hands (ALT). Participants in each task performed a synchronization-continuation task, in which they had to tap for one minute according to an external sound set at their spontaneous motor tempo (separately identified), and then, after the sound stopped, continue tapping at the same tempo for another minute. Results indicated a set of preserved and degraded tapping behaviors in OA compared to YA. The ALT task produced the most deteriorated tapping performance, followed by the ND task; the other two tasks revealed no difference between the groups. These findings shed more light on how SMS declines across the lifespan and provide some preliminary but important information that may guide rehabilitation and diagnostic procedures.

The Proximal Protonation Source in Cu-NHx-C Single Atom Catalysts Selectively Boosts CO2 to Methane Electroreduction.

Regulating the coordination environment of active sites has proved powerful for tapping into their catalytic activity and selectivity in homogeneous catalysis, yet the heterogeneous nature of copper single-atom catalysts (SACs) makes it challenging. This work reports a bottom-up approach to construct a SAC (rGO@Cu-N(Hx)-C) by inlaying preformed amine coordinated Cu2+ units into reduced graphene oxide (rGO), permitting molecular level revelation on how the proximal N-site functional groups (N-H or N-CH3) impact on the carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR). It is demonstrated that the N-H moiety of rGO@Cu-NHx-C can serve as an in-situ protonation agent to accelerate the CO2-to-methane reduction kinetics, delivering a methane current density (163 mA/cm2) 2.

For children navigating complex psychological and emotional challenges, the concept of community extends far beyond the walls of their home. Storytelling can be a powerful tool to foster a broader "village" of support, drawing on the rich network of extended family, neighbors, teachers, and cultural traditions that shape a child's world. Through sharing and listening to stories, children not only find comfort and connection but also discover a sense of pride in their cultural heritage and a deeper understanding of their identity.

Toward effective oxytocin interventions in autism: Overcoming challenges and harnessing opportunities.

J Psychopharmacol

January 2025

Neuromodulation Laboratory, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.

Intranasal administration of oxytocin is emerging as a potential pharmacological option for mitigating social difficulties and regulating stress in autism spectrum disorder. However, initial single-dose and multiple-dose trials showed mixed results, with some demonstrating improvements in social and repetitive behavior and others showing no benefit over placebo. This perspective aims to elucidate factors contributing to this variability and to highlight pitfalls and opportunities in the field.

The phase separation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE)-polypropylene (PP) blends was studied using atomic force microscopy in tapping mode to obtain height and phase images. The results are compared with those from scanning electron microscopy imaging and are connected to the thermomechanical properties of the blends, characterised through differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and tensile testing. Pure PP, as well as 10:90 and 20:80 weight ratio HDPE-PP blends, showed a homogeneous morphology, but the 25:75 HDPE-PP blends exhibited a sub-micrometre droplet-matrix structure, and the 50:50 HDPE-PP blends displayed a more complex co-continuous nano/microphase-separated structure.

Mare's and Cow's Milk Fortified with Flaxseed Oil Through Freeze-Drying Microencapsulation: Physicochemical and Nutritional Properties.

Department of Dairy and Process Engineering, Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition, Poznań University of Life Sciences, Wojska Polskiego 31/33, 60-624 Poznań, Poland.

The microencapsulation via freeze drying of flaxseed oil in cow and mare milk was analyzed. The physicochemical and nutritional properties of the four obtained freeze-dried powder products were comparatively analyzed: microencapsulated and fortified with flaxseed oil cow milk (CMFO) and mare milk (MMFO), as well as pure cow milk (CM) and pure mare milk (MM). The moisture content, water activity, particle size distribution (PSD), loose and tapped bulk densities, flowability, color, and fatty acid profiles of the freeze-dried powders as well as the PSD of reconstituted emulsion droplets were investigated.
