Interlayer excitons (IXs) in the heterostructure of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are considered as a promising platform to study fundamental exciton physics and for potential applications of next generation optoelectronic devices. The IXs trapped in the moiré potential in a twisted monolayer TMD heterostructure such as MoSe/WSe form zero-dimensional (0D) moiré excitons. Introducing an atomically thin insulating layer between TMD monolayers in a twisted heterostructure would modulate the moiré potential landscape, thereby tuning 0D IXs into 2D IXs. However, the optical characteristics of IXs have not been elucidated. Here, we have experimentally investigated the significant optical characteristics arising from IXs in a MoSe/-BN/WSe heterostructure by optical spectroscopy. The experimental results of time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy combined with phenomenological rate equation analysis reveal that the radiative decay rate of IXs in the MoSe/-BN/WSe heterostructure changes as a function of temperature, which strongly suggests the emergence of 2D IXs by the modulation of potential. Moreover, we demonstrate the valley polarization arising from the prolonged valley relaxation lifetime of 2D IXs reaching 100 ns at low temperature, which is dominated by electron-hole exchange interactions. These findings provide us with an effective strategy to tailor the dimensionality of IXs and elucidate the desired optoelectronic response of IXs in monolayer semiconductor heterostructures.

Aging leads to nephron senescence and chronic kidney disease (CKD). In cats, indoxyl sulfate (IxS) has been previously quantified and associated with CKD, and little is known about tubular transporters. Two cohorts of cats aged 6 to 21 years were enrolled.

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is used to study the intermolecular dynamics in the THz frequency range of the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide, [C2C1im][FSI]. Non-polarizable and polarizable models for classical MD simulation are compared using as quality criteria ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) and experimental data from far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopy and previously published data of inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS). According to data from IXS spectroscopy, incorporating polarization in the classical MD simulation has relatively little effect on the dispersion curve (excitation frequency vs wavevector) for longitudinal acoustic modes.

The introduction of intermediate hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) between the bilayer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) heterostructures has been considered an efficient approach to manipulate the interlayer excitations. However, the hBN intercalation primarily serves as a spacer to increase the interlayer distance and alter the screening, without producing a significant band offset shift. Here, we use Janus monolayer CSiH, possessing a prominent out-of-plane intrinsic dipole moment and large enough band gap, as an intercalation to build trilayer MoS/CSiH/WSheterostructures.

Experimental studies of collective dynamics in lipid bilayers have been challenging due to the energy resolution required to observe these low-energy phonon-like modes. However, inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS) measurements-a technique for probing vibrations in soft and biological materials-are now possible with sub-meV resolution, permitting direct observation of low-energy, phonon-like modes in lipid membranes. Here, IXS measurements with sub-meV energy resolution reveal a low-energy optic-like phonon mode at roughly 3 meV in the liquid-ordered (L) and liquid-disordered phases of a ternary lipid mixture.
