PCBs were analysed in 110 samples, including marine fish, freshwater fish and marine bivalves. The levels of ∑PCBs in marine fish ranged from 0.18 to 5.59 ng g wet weight (ww), in freshwater fish from 0.10 to 1.19 ng g ww and in marine bivalves from 0.07 to 5.59 ng g ww. The highest level of PCBs was found in . In marine fish, freshwater fish and marine bivalves, the most abundant compounds were Hexa-CBs, Tri-CBs and Hexa-CBs, respectively. PCBs were distributed in a species-specific manner in aquatic products. None of the aquatic product samples analysed exceeded the limit for ∑PCBs set by China or the limit established by the European Union.

Coral reefs are dynamic ecosystems that can undergo rapid declines in coral abundance following disturbances. This tolerance is linked to reduced activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) signaling pathway. In other animals, the AHR has been shown to influence the gastrointestinal-associated microbial community, particularly when activated by the model toxic pollutant 3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB-126) and other dioxin-like compounds.

Intracellular, free-floating and biofilm-forming bacterial pathogens have been implicated in summer mortality of farmed Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, in New Zealand.
