This meta-analysis aims to compile all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effects of grapes or grape products on adult anthropometric measures and serum adipokines. We searched PubMed, Scopus, Google scholar, Web of Science and CENTRAL databases published before January 2022. Random-effects model was used to combine mean differences between intervention and placebo groups. A minimal reduction was revealed for BMI following consumption of grapes/grape products [weighted mean difference (WMD): -0.14 kg]; however, no significant effects were observed on body weight, except for trials conducting in female ( = 3 studies; WMD: -0.68 kg), and those enrolled patients with metabolic syndrome ( = 3 studies; WMD: -0.62 kg). No significant effect was found for waist circumference, body fat, waist to hip ratio, serum level of leptin and adiponectin. Our findings showed that grapes or grape products have no significant anti-obesity effects on body weight, anthropometric measures, or adipokines. However, BMI showed a trivial decrease, which should not be considered given the low quality of the studies.

A few Aspergillus section Nigri species are involved in the ochratoxin A (OTA) contamination in grapes worldwide, and its occurrence is determined by the agro-climatic conditions of each region. The aim of this study was to examine the diversity of black aspergilli isolated from grapes, soil, and air from vineyards with different agro-climatic conditions. A total of four vineyards located in Catalonia were studied.

Grapevine white rot is a fungal disease that frequently occurs during the growing season, resulting in reduced fruit quality and severe yield losses. This work aimed to compare the differences in flavor profiles between wines made from different percentages of Coniella vitis-infected grapes by using FTIR spectrometer, sensory analysis, HS-SPME-GC-MS and HPLC-DAD. Screening of different lamellar solids for the adsorption of phenolic compounds from grape pomace.

Food Chem

December 2024

Section of Food, Biochemical, Physiological and Nutritional Sciences, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Perugia, 06126 Perugia, Italy.

Grape pomace (GP) is recognized as a valuable source of polyphenols, prompting research into new therapeutic molecules while enhancing this by-product value. To address low stability and bioavailability issues of phenolic compounds, lamellar solids emerge as a promising approach for their loading and stabilization in food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical applications. A solid phase adsorption procedure was developed here by comparing the properties of eight solids towards GP polyphenols.

A varietal origin of eugenol was previously demonstrated in Baco blanc, a major grapevine variety used to produce Armagnac wine spirits. Eugenol was found in high amount, both as the free and as unidentified glycosylated forms. To reveal their identity, a specific method was developed and applied to berry skin extracts.
