The directivity of the quasi-static component (QSC) is quantitatively investigated for evaluating the orientation of a micro-crack buried in a thin solid plate using the numerical simulation method. Based on the bilinear stress-strain constitutive model, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FEM) is built for investigating the nonlinear interaction between primary Lamb waves and the micro-crack. When the primary Lamb waves at A0 mode impinge on the micro-crack, under the modulation of the contact acoustic nonlinearity (CAN), the micro-crack itself will induce QSC. The amplitude of the QSC generated can be used for directly charactering the micro-crack orientation. The finite element simulation results show that the directivity of the QSC radiated by the micro-crack is closely related to the orientation of the micro-crack, allowing for the characterization of micro-crack orientation without the need for baseline signals. The results indicate that the directionality of the QSC can be used for characterizing the orientation of the micro-crack. The amplitude of the QSC is affected by the contact area between two surfaces of the micro-crack. It is demonstrated that the proposed method is a feasible means for the characterization of micro-crack orientation.

Though mechano-responsive luminescent materials obtained much attention, most of their responses are non-reversible, let alone in situ reversible. Here, the study presents a new strategy to push through this limitation for their applications, which relies on the reversible mechano-responsive (MR) hydrogen bonding interactions and polymer chain orientation among a doped polyurethane (PU) elastomer. The radiative and nonradiative transitions inside these phosphorescent triphenylene-based aromatic secondary amines (TpNP and TpNPO) doped in the PU matrix can be accordingly modulated by these MR variations, including the PU chains orientation and the interactions between emitters and PU, respectively.

High-quality, uniaxially oriented, and flexible PbZrTiO (PZT) films were fabricated on flexible RbLaNbO/BaTiO (RLNO/BTO)-coated polyimide (PI) substrates. All layers were fabricated by a photo-assisted chemical solution deposition (PCSD) process using KrF laser irradiation for photocrystallization of the printed precursors. The Dion-Jacobson perovskite RLNO thin films on flexible PI sheets were employed as seed layers for the uniaxially oriented growth of PZT films.

The deformation and failure characteristics of pipeline steel depend on its atomic structure and microstructure. Based on the serial multi-scale analysis technology, the ferrite/cementite (α-Fe/FeC) lamellar atomic structure with Bagaryatskii orientation relationship is established. In order to obtain the experimental sample of the lowest energy state, The step-by-step relaxation method of conjugate gradient energy minimization and constant temperature and constant pressure relaxation under NPT conditions is carried out, and the energy state and atomic structure of the relaxed samples are analyzed.

Windmill palm fibres are well-known plant fibres exhibiting the largest elongation at break. In this study, lignin or hemicellulose was removed from windmill palm fibres in a targeted manner to prepare materials with different chemical compositions. The structure and mechanical properties of the windmill palm fibres were analysed using in situ scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, X-ray diffraction analysis and tensile testing.
