Proximal tibiofibular joint detachment (PTFJD) is a fibular untethering procedure during lateral closing-wedge high tibial osteotomy (LCWHTO) for varus knee osteoarthritis. However, the PTFJD procedure is technically demanding, and confirmation of clear joint separation is not straightforward. The aim of this study was to compare the degree of completion and safety of PTFJD versus tibial-sided osteotomy (TSO); this latter procedure is our novel technique for fibular untethering during LCWHTO.

Honoring donors: medical students' reflections on cadaveric dissection.

BMC Med Educ

January 2025

Department of Medical Education, Medical School, Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju, Republic of Korea.

Background: Cadaveric dissection is an essential practice for medical students to understand human anatomy and internalize professional attitudes toward death, such as empathy and respect for the deceased. Previous studies have focused on emotional responses such as shock, anxiety, and fear at the start of dissection practice. However, limited research exists on students' reflective thinking and perceptions before practice.

Relation of Transversus Abdominis to Rectus Abdominis Muscle in Various Anatomical Landmark Levels: A Cadaveric Study.

Arch Plast Surg

Division of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand.

Posterior Component Separation (PCS) is a surgical technique used in abdominal wall reconstruction. Understanding the relationship between the rectus abdominis and transversus abdominis muscles and the location of intercostal nerves is crucial for minimizing nerve injury during PCS. This cadaveric study aimed to investigate these anatomical relationships and propose practical guidelines for safer PCS procedures.

In otolaryngology, training often involves simulation in animal specimens, human cadavers, and artificial models to facilitate learning surgical procedures, reducing the time needed to acquire essential skills. Simulated training has become integral to medical education, particularly in microsurgical techniques, such as microlaryngeal surgery. These procedures, also known as phonomicrosurgery, are performed on the vocal folds using microscopic visualization and precision instruments with long shafts and millimetric tips.
