, an Ascomycetes fungus, is the responsible pathogen for histoplasmosis. Although often asymptomatic, around 1% of cases progress to disseminated infection. Endovascular graft infections with this fungus have been reported, particularly on abdominal aortic or aortofemoral bypass grafts. Timely antifungal therapy followed by appropriate surgical intervention is vital for a favorable outcome to be achieved. We describe a case involving a 73-year-old man in whom disseminated histoplasmosis developed 2 decades after his ascending aortic aneurysm repair. He presented with a fungal ball in the proximal ascending portion of the aorta. The patient was successfully treated with an aortic root replacement and hemiarch reconstruction.

This article reports on the scalability of a combined wet grinding technique applying planetary ball mill and ZrO pearls as the grinding medium. After the determination of the parameters in a laboratory scale, the tenfold scale-up method was set. Meloxicam (MEL) was used as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) intended for per os delivery.

Pro-inflammatory macrophage activation is a hallmark example of how mitochondria serve as signaling organelles. Oxidative phosphorylation sharply decreases upon classical macrophage activation, as mitochondria are thought to shift from ATP production towards accumulating signals that amplify effector function. However, evidence is conflicting regarding whether this collapse in respiration is essential or dispensable.

Article Synopsis
  • The TRAMP complex is crucial for RNA processing and features two key enzymatic activities that involve both polyadenylation and unwinding of RNA.
  • New research using hydrogen-deuterium exchange data reveals insights into how TRAMP assembles and shuffles RNA between its catalytic sites, which are not fully understood.
  • Findings indicate that peripheral RNA-recognition motifs affect TRAMP assembly and that different active-site subunits interact with tRNA in ways that influence RNA transfer between TRAMP components.
